The Frank Soo Foundation

Spreading Frank’s story, supporting East & South East Asians in football & building better communities. In memory of Frank Soo (1914-1991) Stoke City & England.

With the World Cup approaching, I thought I’d share a topical story about an underwhelming England performance: In May 1958 England were preparing for the tournament with a friendly against Portugal. Beware, warned Roy Peskett in the Daily Mail, of Augusto Rocha, ‘o Pequeno Tigre’ from Macao

On the left is a yellow and blue advert for the 1958 Sweden World Cup and on the right is a black and white picture of Augusto Rocha.

An honorary cap will finally be awarded to the family of Frank Soo and the Frank Soo Foundation at Wembley Stadium before the friendly between England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 on Thursday 9 October. Soo, born in Buxton, was the first player of Asian descent to play for England back in 1942.

I don't need approval or elikes, but this has been troubling recently & based on what I've learned from @fsoofoundation.bsky.social & the ESEA community in England, racism especially towards ESEA is largely ignored. Not afraid to call out on United fans too, it's disgraceful & won't go about Foden
