This is what establishment Dems have been so afraid of. They’re afraid of their base learning that socialist policies are so broadly popular that even conservatives will vote for them. Anti-socialism is dying in the US & a new society-changing socialist movement is being born.

Fox News host tells Francesca Hong, "I just want to compliment you...Trump voters say she's very affable, they kind of like what you have to say." "It's going to be an interesting race."

Bluesky vindication lmao. I don’t know how many socialists & communists I follow on here who had incredibly salient & level-headed takes on Platner who were treated as if they were absolutely insane.

I checked Platner's Facebook and Bluesky accounts to see how users have reacted to his controversies and from what I observed is Bluesky users are far less forgiving compared with Facebook....

Those who chose Graham Platner really thought they could just pluck out a random unvetted jarhead Blackwater vet like Platner and toss him onto a left populist conveyor belt and all would turn out well. Ironically, instead, they revealed him to be a rapist. Masterful gambit.

Honestly when it comes to a Graham Platner win, we may have dodged a bullet in the long run. Going forward let this embolden us to not let "Blackwater merc candidate" even get out of the starting gate. No one needs to expend the energy defending it. We deserve better.

Platner WILL win because he's running a left populist platform. and when he does the commentary class will use it as an excuse to say "the blackwater mercenary thing & nazi thing isn't as big of a deal as we thought it was! we should run more people like him!" this will have devastating consequences

his WINNING POLICIES will take a backseat as the focal point in favor of his "WINNING" IDENTITY QUALIFIERS. this won't be for the better. but we'll circle back around when that happens i suppose. but it will happen.

I'll reiterate that Platner is not popular because he's a burly masculine white veteran. He was popular because he's running a left populist policy platform that voters crave. Graham Platner had no secret sauce to success. It's the POLICIES that are the secret sauce.

centering men like this plays into right wing narratives. young men will not be attracted to your party just because of war aesthetics/tough guy bravado. men will be drawn to your party if you offer them good policies. Zohran attracts men, women, queer ppl. is it because hes a strong Marine warrior?

One other point on why this matters beyond a Maine Senate race. For almost 10 years now, since the first Sanders campaign, young men have been told pretty clearly there isn't a place for them in the Democratic Party. Candidates they liked were automatically deemed suspicious just because they liked them.
If Platner is a senator able to go on long form podcasts and talk guns and opposition to war and corruption and oligarchy and oystering and Medicare for All, and also about escaping the misery of alienation through hope and community, that can change the way men see the party, and they might think there's space for them, and hope for them, after all.
It's not just the right thing to do, it's also politically existential. A major party can't win while losing men on the trajectory Dems are on.
Also, Janet Mills is at 24%, losing to him by over 30 points. How is this even a debate?

Zohran is a young muslim dude who can't even bench 135 pounds yet his campaign is attracting people of all backgrounds, ages, & ethnicities. he doesn't have to try to be tough. he doesn't have to suck off the barrel of a gun. he brings the policies, which is the most important aspect of a campaign

Graham Platner was not popular because he was a strong Marine archetype. he was popular because he was running on a leftist populist policy platform. THAT is what is important. THAT is what wins. trying to prove otherwise is just grasping at idpol straws.
full slack @fullslack.bsky.social • 6d before Zohran won the primary i knew he was gonna win before he even gained real momentum. never second guessed it. people are hungry for change & a left populist platform is what they crave. they might not have the words for it, understand the political theory behind it, but they know they need it.

This should be a standard. Also, we should put a moratorium on veterans running as left populists. No need for that. We're done there. Are you a veteran? Get involved behind the scenes. Let's keep running squeaky clean candidates like Zohran, Valdez, & El-Sayed instead, thanks👍

the lesson should be if you're a leftist & have the baggage of Graham Platner, STAY THE FUCK OUT OF POLITICS. you're making it an uphill battle for the rest of us. we don't need to defend any candidates to this degree, it's literally not worthy of our energy. we need to be lead by the best among us.

Saying this and thinking people won’t go “sounds nice!” goes to show how much these fascists don’t understand the moment at all. They’re constrained to the power dynamics of the past where so many blindly fell in line for braindead slop. They’ve lost the reigns.

Woke 2.0 is coming. It's starting already.
Rather than foregrounding identity politics, it will push:
1) Affordability (Marxist materialism);
2) Anti-corruption (ironic but an excuse to go after Trump);
3) Anti-Israel (pro-Palestine).
It will be warm to political violence.

Jake Tapper is a liberal fascist who’s been running cover for the slaughter of tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians. He’d be one of the first media figures to explain how it’s moral and just when they throw anti-zionists & political dissenters into concentration camps.

Jake Tapper and Dan Golfman continue to slander Mahmoud Khalil, falsely claiming he's said "slurs" and "stereotypical tropes" about Jews, and they even further imply that NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani endorsed these unnamed utterances.

Jon Lovett says if you criticize a politician for their support of Israel, you’re antisemitic. It doesn’t matter that you didn’t say anything about Judaism or about them being Jewish, or that you only mentioned the apartheid ethnostate of Israel. Apparently you’re antisemitic.

Yeah, when you terrorize, torture, & brutalize an entire region of the world in the name of your nation, naturally those who suffer in that part of the world will want revenge on your nation. It’s pretty simple.

Hello Alicia —
How should DSA engage with the presidential election in 2028? As a DSA member, you can be part of our decision. Read on to find out more!
The 2028 presidential election is perhaps the most consequential question facing the socialist movement right now. DSA has never been stronger, with new socialists in office from Congress to city councils and a membership of over 100,000. And the stakes are high, with the current administration starting "whenever wars" abroad and killing our neighbors in the streets. More and more people are

Establishment liberal Democrats have been willingly ineffective at fighting conservatives because both sides are capitalists at the end of the day & both benefit from conservatism. So they’ll fight much harder against socialism, but their incompetence will still show.
