“Music should unite us and be a source of creativity and artistic and spiritual enrichment. … Unite, create, take a synthesizer and a drum machine, imagine two chords and express what you feel!” -Stanze Fredde, 2025 🩵🖤🤍 When I first learned of @stanze.fredde, I fell in love not only with their amazing music, but also their philosophy of emphasizing art over commercialism and craft over “pressing play”. I listen to lots of music released on netlabels, and for years I have experienced their power to un-tether music and its’ raw creativity from commercialism. Because I’ve learned about Stanze Fredde mostly from Post-Punk.com, I wanted to credit their 2024 article for most of what you will read below! https://post-punk.com/italian-label-stanze-fredde-records-announces-coldwave-festival-and-compilation/The idea for Stanze Fredde (Italian for “Cold Room”) followed a disappointing turnout at a post-punk concert, where only a handful of people showed up. The founders (@tommaso.leporale and @binke_ ) discussed the challenge of promoting art and music in Italy, particularly in a genre that lacks mainstream support. They realized there were few spaces available for young artists to perform or express themselves. Stanze Fredde was born to fill that gap, particularly on their home turf. “Minimal and coldwave music has a do it yourself approach – most artists record their tracks with what they have in their rooms,” says the label. “Since it is a cold, melancholic and dark genre we imagined a room full of synthesizers and ice stalactites. This imagery gave birth to our logo and to the cover of our compilation.” 🧊 Stanze Fredde produces homemade CDs and merch. All CDs are made using recycled cases and the covers and artwork are designed and printed at home.They release albums for many independent artists, but for three years in a row they have also released a compilation designed to fund an annual festival in Turin.
