Maybe instead of your sequel being exponentially larger and more expensive you just make a game mostly the same size with improvements to the mechanics and setpieces
Elder Scrolls 6 is gonna have all the stupid settlement building and radiant quest shit from Fallout 4 and be the size of the actual state of Rhode Island when all they had to do was make a game basically the exact same size as Skyrim but slightly prettier

I think it was on this week's CSB but maybe it was a chat message in a pat stream or something, but someone asked if we had run out of games to make because things have gotten samey, and the answer is no, but we've bottlenecked creativity with budgets
there's an infinite number of games that can be made, there are untold kinds of experience nobody has even thought of yet, but there's a very finite number of games that can make back a 500 million dollar budget
