I'm burnt out of discussing "AI". I don't care for the press releases from big companies. I hate having to comment immediately. I dislike "hot takes". I'm worried we, as scientists, are losing touch with scientific values. We've become customers, salivating at ads marketed to investors. 1/15

This here is a Thorny devil (Moloch horridus), a lizard endemic to the arid deserts of Australia. Despite its fierce, thorn-covered appearance, it is a small, harmless creature. Microscopic grooves between its scales allow it to drink water through its skin via capillary action. So cool.

The alpha version of MEKZANTIN.otf (by Michael Alexander of mek.gallery) has been really enjoyable to use and has quickly become one of my favorite fonts. I have added it to Sacred Computer (sacred.computer) and I am contemplating using it in all of my terminals to feel alive

the thing is, this shouldn't be sobering, this shouldn't be _at all_ surprising, scientists have been screaming from the rooftops that this was on the way for longer than most people on planet earth have been alive, and yet we chose to pretend things were fine and to burn more and more carbon
