Going on holiday tomorrow. Suffered a bit of burnout last week and while the weekend seemed to sort me out, a few days in the sunshine with copious amounts of cocktails will do me the world of good. Had some good news with work after the graft so seems a good time for it. 🍸

Apparently this has been selling quite fast, and according to Darren, not many tickets are left, so thank you for showing an interest. I look forward to seeing you there. I'll be on the 14th but the whole series looks great. Link below! www.edfringe.com/tickets/what...
Visited Fermanagh and Milltown today, the latter of which my great great grandfather was a servant (professional name "coachman", so drove Edward Archdale around, as did the rest of our family at that time) at the Archdale Castle.
"They are trying to make hunting difficult because of one murder" First, just to get it right, Dunblane was not “one murder”. It was the murder of sixteen children, their teacher, alongside fifteen others who were seriously wounded...
Interesting to see a return of the term "Ned" to mainstream media in the last couple of years. That's a few times now that journalists have felt comfortable throwing around the label, thinking not about the implications, let alone caring about them.🧵 www.heraldscotland.com/news/2625367...

Belfast in an eerie state. Everything closed. The vast majority of buses stopped. Also seen the media cutting about taking photos of smashed windows (which have been smashed for a while now). Asked them about it and got pied. Stoking panic.
Productive end to the week. Long overdue catch up with @crmnlgy.bsky.social and @robbiejourno.bsky.social this morning for a wee scran and coffee. Then got a new article in for submission after weeks of effin about with it. Few smokies and some reading now before an early night. Slàinte mhath!
The Ned Culture Renaissance has just peaked. 15-year-old me is in that collection somewhere, so please ignore the bleached blonde barcode fringe and hoop earring. 😆

Two great minds and orators when discussing social class and the place of working-class people in Scottish politics and society. Nae polished social media affectation or pseudo intellectualism here, these guys are the real deal who are well informed, researched and have lived the life!

"Like the conversation between the sword and the neck". Ghassan Kanafani highlights the inherent contradictions and detachment in Western media interviews. A Marxist-Leninist and active member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Kanafani was assasinated on 8th July, 1972.
Many thanks to @graemearmstrong.bsky.social for an early copy of his brand new book – a hardback too! And an additional thank you too for the thoughtful wee mention in it.

The Demon Drink. We are all so invested in football. It means so much to us. But as a class, due to the trauma and hardships we endure, many of us struggle to enjoy the good without alcohol. We struggle to find a sense of escapism. But sadly, with a drink, we struggle even more.
Despite the constant talks of "progressive" politics by those in power these last few months, the Scottish Government are doing absolutely nothing to prevent thousands of job cuts across Scottish academic institutions. Where is the support for the country's educators? A complete shambles!
"The whole system becomes weightless, it is no longer anything but a gigantic simulacrum—not unreal, but simulacrum, that is to say never exchanged for the real, but exchanged for itself, in an uninterrupted circuit without reference or circumference." Jean Baudrillard

We are now at the stage where the capitalist classes are moralising the sale of organs as a common good principle. Indeed, we have long struggled against the brutalisation of the working-class body. ...
