Hymowitz Family Professor of Global Health & Professor of Public Policy at Duke University. Director of the Center for Policy Impact in Global Health. DJ at WXDU (Thursdays, 4-6pm ET, wxdu.org). TIME columnist. He/him. Tallest Jew on Earth.

I love “Belisha beacons”—the yellow globular lights atop a black & white striped pole either side of a zebra crossing They’re named after the Sephardi Jew Isaac Leslie Hore-Belisha, Minister of Transport, who modernized roads & road safety in the ‘30s (& suffered much antisemitism). Great dresser!

Isaac Leslie Hore-Belisha, 1st Baron Hore-Belisha (/ˈhɔːr bəˈliːʃə/; 7 September 1893 – 16 February 1957) was a British politician, at first a member of the Liberal Party, later of the Liberal Nationals, and eventually of the Conservative Party, who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) and Cabinet Minister. He proved highly successful in modernising the British road system between 1934 and 1937 as Minister of Transport.

Oh yes, we have a rad new website! Alternative, non-commercial, public college radio for the win! Tune into my show tomorrow, 4-6pm ET, Professor G’s Musical Odyssey, I can GUARANTEE you’ll hear music that makes your soul stir, your heart sing, & your spirit dance…or your money back lol wxdu.art

WXDU’s new website!

I had to code and pronounce a time of death on a respiratory therapist colleague. There's a memorial plaque for her outside the emergency department to this day. I wrote and re-wrote my will. I will never forgive these ghouls trying to rewrite history and deny our experience.

RFK Jr said these words today on national television "There were ICUs that were empty all over the country including in New York at the height (of the pandemic)" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha You are a fucking idiot hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha <sobs silently>

Oh yeah, you can see why the MAGA/MAHA kooks want Quay to lead the NIAID at NIH. It’s not just that he’s a pharma executive (which they love). It’s a requirement to be a lab leaker, obviously, but it goes way beyond that—you also need to be endlessly wrong, scientifically!

Alex Crits-Christoph@acritschristoph.bsky.social · 13h ago

So, something that the media will sanewash as this story develops is Quay isn't just a lab origin proponent. He has for 5 years sold an endless stream of very specifically wrong and silly ideas on the topic. He's not right, but even if he was, that wouldn't excuse his fabrications along the way!

It was stunning to hear RFK Jr say that he’s got measles and cyclosporiasis “under control” and praising himself for his efforts Measles cases for 2026 just hit a 35 year high and we still have 5 more months in the year He represents a combination of venality, grifting, eugenics, & incompetence

">900 people in Washtenaw County, MI, have been sickened with cyclosporiasis since mid-June. Linda Kim, a public health nurse, has called >100 of them. Almost everyone has said the same thing: It’s excruciating, and one of the worst illnesses they’ve experienced." kffhealthnews.org/public-healt...

Susan Collins announcing she'll vote against a controversial nominee is basically the moment it becomes clear that nominee will be confirmed. It means Thune has enough votes to confirm, and thus, Collins gets a pass to look independent.

BREAKING: Sen. Dick Durbin accuses Todd Blanche of lying under oath. He says Blanche told him in his office — with witnesses — that the slush fund was a mistake. In his confirmation hearing, Blanche denied that remark.

SCOOP: The CDC has linked six additional states to a large outbreak of cyclosporiasis associated with iceberg lettuce — Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire and North Carolina — bringing the total tally to 15. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/04/w...

C.D.C. Expands Cyclospora Outbreak to More States (Gift Article)

Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire and North Carolina are now among the states linked to the outbreak associated with iceberg lettuce.

Every single time I think the MAGA/MAHA extremists can't stoop any lower, they shock me Now they're attacking Francesca Hong for her mental health history; how astoundingly cruel and stigmatizing

Julia Métraux@juliametraux.bsky.social · yesterday

"My own mental health journey has given me a much deeper sense of empathy,” @francescahongwi.bsky.social told me. I wrote about the ridiculous attacks by right-wing media on Francesca Hong's mental health history for @motherjones.com. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

As a physician who now works in public health & policy, & as the father of a pre-teen boy who will inevitably be exposed to messages from the manosphere, I'm concerned about how MAHA, MAGA, & masculinity influencers have merged Here's my new OpEd on the risks www.medpagetoday.com/opinion/seco...

Opinion | The Manosphere and MAHA Have Merged. I Worry for My Pre-Teen Son.

This culture is driving three main kinds of health risks

MAGA/MAHA: imaginary quarantine camps would have been an assault on civil liberties! Also MAGA/MAHA: let's kidnap adults & kids, tear-gas & zip tie kids, torture them all in concentration camps, & also separate Black kids from their families & "reparent" them in camps (www.npr.org/2026/04/29/n...)!

Katie Mack@astrokatie.com · yesterday

And meanwhile the actual current HHS secretary is openly promoting sending children to work camps in lieu of mental health treatment but sure, imaginary quarantine camps that never happened are the real threat
