Delighted to be speaking during my visiting at the University of Tokyo, Department of Italian Studies. Tomorrow, I will discuss Pasolini's "Teorema" from a systemic functional perspective, focusing on how the gaze constructs meaning and reshapes relations.
i'm pleased to share my recent article, co-authored with M.C. Nisco and M. Quadraro. By revisiting the intellectual tradition of the Neapolitan School and its contribution to English language studies, we reflect on the role of Cultural Studies in ELT, foregrounding language as a signifying practice.
Who’s Afraid of Cultural Studies? Linguistics with a Twist | Altre Modernità
This contribution examines the conceptualisation of language as a signifying practice by tracing the ways in which Cultural Studies have been productively mobilised within the domain of English linguistics. Focusing on the development of a distinctive Neapolitan tradition, the article reconstructs how Cultural Studies provided theoretical and methodological resources for challenging formalist and structuralist approaches to language, enabling a reconceptualisation of linguistics as a discipline deeply embedded in social, cultural, and political processes.
