While Trump's SAVE Act has been stalled in Congress, 12 states have passed SAVE Act-like laws since 2024. The threat of these SAVE Act-like laws blocking American citizens from voting isn't hypothetical, it's inevitable.

The SAVE Act would require Americans to drive, fly, or even take a ferry to exercise their constitutional right to vote. Alaskan Senator Murkowski explains:

One more thing about the SAVE Act that's laughable, North Dakota, which doesn't do voter registration would be COMPLETELY EXEMPT. So while Americans in all other 49 states would need to show a passport or birth certificate in person to register to vote, North Dakotans can just walz to the polls.
