These last few years @germinatescience.bsky.social, we've had the pleasure of working with so many brilliant scientists. Supporting them to secure funding to undertake their ambitious and inspiring science has been a privilege. 1/n

And for comparison, as a Deputy (managing) editor at Science, I worked 60 hours a week for <$100K a year. The staff who actually put the journal together to make all this money for AAAS and to pay execs are not valued. Which is part of the reason I left and now freelance.

Since AAAS is a non-profit organization its IRS 990 form is publicly available. The 2023 form (the most recent one available) can be found at www.aaas.org/about/financ... . Selected salaries are listed on page 7. The EiC compensation was $654,263, an increase of $24,603 (3.9%) over 2022. 82/n
