That’s a wrap on the #MOOSE2026 cruise! R/V Gaia Blu arrived in La Seyne-sur-Mer, France, yesterday afternoon, bringing this year’s expedition, and the ship-based phase of the GEORGE demonstration mission in the northwestern Mediterranean, to a close 🎉 (1/4)
Update from the GEORGE demo mission in the NW Mediterranean & #MOOSE2026 cruise on R/V #GaiaBlu 🚢 On Friday, the second #Argo float of the mission was deployed for long-term autonomous measurements near Lion. Following tradition, the float was signed by crew members before being sent on its way ✍️
Day 4 of the #MOOSE2026 cruise 🌊 On #GaiaBlu, General Oceanics (GO) system is measuring CO₂ in the surface ocean & atmosphere. Tonight, the ship is expected to meet #Sailbuoy, carrying #CaPASOS, so data from both platforms can be compared. 📸 Christian Clauwers 👉 https://ow.ly/3MJl50ZmjRw
Two days into the expedition aboard R/V Gaia Blu for the GEORGE NW Mediterranean demo mission 🚢 Teams are running CTD casts for carbon, pH, nutrients and oxygen, setting up the GO system and preparing the coastal #Argo float for tonight's deployment. Follow for updates! 📸: Christian Clauwers
🌊 The GEORGE NW MedSea deployment started last week with the deployment of Sailbuoy, carrying #CaPASOS, an instrument for autonomous #pCO2 measurements. By 7 July, it had travelled 120 km off the coastline. The journey continues until mid-July. ⛵ 👉: https://ow.ly/cXMo50Zlphz
Exciting news! GEORGE is beginning its 2nd major multi-platform demonstration mission in the Northwestern Mediterranean Sea. 🚢 🌊The purpose of the cruise is to test autonomous ocean observing technologies developed in the project. 👉 Read more: https://ow.ly/GckX50ZkXYJ
The 1st demo videos for the GEORGE online training platform are out! 🤩 🔹 Assembling the CaPASOS-lite educational kit 🔹 Retrieving data from the CaPASOS instrument 🔹 Exchanging the membrane of the CONTROS HydroC CO2 sensor 🔹 Using the CONTROS HydroFIA pH system 👉 https://ow.ly/RBoX50Zb7yR
Happy #WorldOceansDay! GEORGE develops next-generation autonomous technologies for ocean carbon observations. This summer, the project will embark on some field trials in the Northwestern Mediterranean to demonstrate the operation of a multi-RI observing system 🌊🚢 📍 Follow for more updates! ✅
A CO₂ sensor by #4HJena equipped with an innovative antifouling system has been successfully deployed at the #EMSO #OBSEA Observatory. The deployment aims to evaluate long-term stability of pCO₂ measurements & resistance to biofouling. 🐚 Read more: https://ow.ly/7g1c50Z7A0j
How do you decide where to send autonomous ocean observing platforms when conditions are constantly changing? 🌊 In GEORGE, one of the tools explored for this purpose is #FleetBot, an adaptive sampling tool designed to support oceanographic planning. 👉 https://ow.ly/vQyT50Z3LkG
