German Wondering

German fully aware of my people's history watches in awe how societies erode along established patterns. Trying to add literate and global perspectives. Yes, I said trying.

Elections in Germany: German elections in focus of Russian produced Fake Stories. “Ahead of the elections in Berlin, Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Lower Saxony, dozens of fake pieces of content are circulating that aim to discredit candidates and portray Germany as divided.”

Faktencheck: Deutsche Wahlen im Fokus russischer Fakes

Thought: Unhinged Quacksalbers belong off the air, or behind bars if they endanger society. For those living in reality: MAGA Quacksalbers are responsible for 100k+ excess deaths in the US during Covid. The US did worst in comparison to other developed nations. #Covid19

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.

US Covid failures: One core responsibility of government is to keep people safe. The MAGA US administration has failed its people during Covid. In the developed world Quacksalbers who endanger society are either silenced or are held accountable for damage done. US excess death stats in thread. 👇

RFK: "You are saying nonsense." Bash: "I am not saying nonsense, excuse me?…This is not productive. " RFK: "You're talking nonsense…You were scaring people." Bash: "Why are you saying that?" RFK: "Because that was the job of CNN." Bash: "Okay, stop."

Another US culture war around history revision and #Odyssey: A good time to remind oneself that history is typically written by the victor. A "people's history of the US" is a reflection from the viewpoint of those who did not win. Good weekend read. Tidbits captured in thread below 👇 #ElonMusk

Good Read: Howard Zinn - A People's History of the United States. (Pub 2009) Zinn shows US history as shaped by conquest, slavery, and inequality, with resistance movements pushing back. It argues constant war, rising labor unions, and growing corporate power define its trajectory. #Booksky

History: America's internment of Japanese Americans in concentration camps during WWII is taught today as an example of failure of constitutional checks and balances of US Government.

"A concentration camp, in its most basic definition, is a place where a targeted civilian population, not necessarily accused of a crime, is detained and at least some of their basic rights are suspended," writes @jwashing.bsky.social. "That’s precisely what’s happening in the United States today."

I still think the better positioning of what he and liberals want is "Social Democracy", not "Democratic Socialism". "Socialism" is a swear word in the US, trained into people for 100 years to hate. And pure Socialism - as in real life implementations - to date IS a failed societal experiment.
