The Full Moon getting slightly photobombed by a plane rising out of SFO. And this was after it was too foggy in Half Moon Bay, and I headed south to San Gregorio to find a break in the clouds. 7/29/2026

7:05 pm. Flow around an area of low pressure aloft over north-central Oregon is triggering some thunderstorms down the Sacramento and the northern San Joaquin Valley and adjacent foothills.

The May CPC ENSO Outlook has just been posted, with signs continuing to point toward at least a strong El Niño next fall and winter. Note that the term "Super" is nowhere to be seen, but rather "Very Strong" for a RONI of > 2.0°C.

Some context to consider about the latest ECMWF Niño3.4 forecast. Looking at the past 9-years of May forecasts, there appears to be a strong warm bias. They are also based old 981-2010 climatology and the old ONI and not the newer RONI. Caveat emptor.

With the upper level low centered near Santa Barbara, we are seeing some "backdoor" showers spreading into the Bay Area from the northeast. They are relatively high-based and rainfall amounts should be minimal
