Yes. And Whisenhunt leads the young group of pitchers who various leaders in the org insist need to have opportunities and thus why the team cannot commit to premium free agent talent. Multiple years of this belief that started off as optimistic but now can only be deemed delusional imo.

Hernandez only had 4 SB entering this game. I wondered if SD prohibited him from running because there’s plus speed here. Makes sense to prioritize reps at the plate rather than risk injury on the base paths especially in the DSL where ball in play edge cases happen routinely.

Giants can open two more 40-man spots by using 60-day IL for Bader and Schmitt. Though I’ll admit, I don’t know what that would mean with Bader’s other issues. When Giants have been running 38, 39 man rosters, that is counting possible 60-day guys (can only use that IL when 40 man is full)

This was my gut reaction. Feel this trade is borderline hubris from the Dodgers. Maybe this is the top.

I will also point out that the Dodgers trading two very good pieces with tons of control for a BorasCorp client pitcher coming off an arm injury who is going to be a free agent in three months is, purely in a vacuum, actually net positive for the *long-term* balance issue

If you need a guy to give you bulk innings in a playoff game, I’ll bet on the guy with a near 1 K per IP. Get your bids ready contenders!

@JeffPassan tweeted Multiple teams have engaged the Seattle Mariners on a potential trade for right-hander George Kirby and get the sense he is available and could be moved before the Aug. 3 deadline, sources tell ESPN. Mariners have been listening on starters Emerson Hancock and Luis Castillo, too.

Getting the sense an Adames-shaped plank is being laid for someone in the FO to walk. The obvious candidate is Minasian, whose rep is sourcing inside info on players and who had ties to Adames’ old org. Posey doctrine is paramount, and Adames clearly doesn’t fit it. So who pays for that mismatch?

Giants LLC will push for a shakeup this offseason. IMO they’ll chalk up the current direction on holdovers, Haines, Minasian, Holmes, and others. I could see Haines, Minasian out, with an experienced hand like James Click added in senior advisor/GM role to reshape the FO. Then assume POBO <24 mo.

FanGraphs ranks the Giants system at 13 in their latest update. I don’t necessarily think FG has the best prospect evaluations, but I do agree with how they value prospects from a $ perspective. It matches well with some of the modeling I’ve done. www.fangraphs.com/prospects/fa...

Haase might fetch something. NYY is a fit: a RHH platoon partner for Wells, though they probably want a starter type. PHI could use more bat behind Realmuto. CHW’s Romo (50 wRC+) and Teel (79) are light hitters, but better defenders. HOU maybe too. Bart netted a 40-man depth RP in Hunter Stratton.

A few notes on lower level pitchers: RHP Ebduar Loina has been up to 99mph in the DSL. Has struggled to throw strikes in his second season. 2025 signing out of Panama RHP Kendry Castro up to 97 in the ACL RHP Bryan Narvaez with an impressive two plane breaker and FB getting to mid 90s.

I’m sure any team would love to have Devers on a 7/106M deal… My model pegs Devers value at 140-150M over the next 7 seasons. My read is Giants would need to eat 50M-60M in a pure salary dump deal, not 100M+. Carlson is worth ~10M, so big win for CHW here blogs.fangraphs.com/lets-make-so...

My trade value predictions: Arraez: one 45 FV, or two 40 FV as core pieces. Ray: nothing unless 6M+ is kicked in A smart team will scoop up Mahle. Ramos will be desirable, lots of teams are getting nothing out of COF. Not sure I would move him except for a prearb/early arb backend SP.

Soderstrom’s 7/$86M is a good comp. I’d guess the Giants open around 8/80-85M, Eldridge seeks 8/100-110M, and they settle around 8/85-90M next spring (with a couple of team options). Would be interesting if they don’t extend.

Good read. One nitpick, Hernandez played in the summer league (LMBP) in Venezuela, not winter (LVBP). Yet to make LVBP debut for Leones del Caracas Quality of talent in LMBP is a lot lower than LVBP. There are a few AAA/MLB guys in LMBP, but LVBP is majority them. www.nytimes.com/athletic/747...

Gonzalez has an average LA of -5° per FG article. That’s consistently pounding the ball into the ground. My preseason note touched on this swing path led ground ball issue, but didn’t have the data then. Looks like Giants haven’t yet unlocked that adjustment. blogs.fangraphs.com/2026-pre-tra...
