Gifdex
@gifdex.net
An expressive platform to find and share GIFs, powered by the open web. A project by @blooym.dev. ✨ Try the alpha at https://gifdex.net
gifdex.net is now available in *early* Alpha! Gifdex is a platform to find, upload, save, and share GIFs, all powered by the ATProtocol. All your data is held by you, Gifdex simply collects it in a convinent place - move it, delete it, or integrate with it on any other platform seamlessly.ii
Gifdex's web app has moved to gifdex.net and the platform is now considered an alpha release! There are plenty more changes to come before things are stablised, but this is the start of things ^^
A WIP frontend is available at preview.gifdex.net now too 🩷 * Please note that moderation will still be applied to the WIP platform, and any restrictions will carry over to the final deployment. * Content posted must be SFW and not contain flickering imagery. NSFW is not permitted at this time

Okay, minus any moderation additions, these should be fairly stable to implement by any client. Feel free to use api.gifdex.net, that should implement all these fairly well now Front end will be done soon, hopefully same with moderation bits and pieces

Last call for this set of lexicons before I consider them mostly-finished If you’ve got any complaints at all, voice them now, reposts for reach appreciated.

Any complaints on these? I've been bikeshedding the api design for months so I'd rather just ship something at this point, but I'd like feedback first
Search should be faster and more accurate now! (If you're using the preview, give it a try, it'll be better unless there's not many posts for the query)

Good test, Gifdex's prod preview infrastructure remained 100% operational during the Bluesky outage. Call for mutuals to use the preview is still open, by the way.
status.zzstoatzz.io now w better emoji selection, overall data fetching, and a secret new (atprotated) source of GIFs

in a good place

We’re now in the testing preview phase until @blooym.dev is back home and final cleanup and features can be done ^-^
I have a semi working gifdex preview build (it is not stablised apart from the core records), if any close oomfs wanna come port over some of their data I'm open to dming a link
It's not perfect yet but the loading shimmer exits earlier by loading a really low quality static of the gif until the original is ready Obviously when the media is actually cached by the cdn or browser both the shimmer and sometimes the preview can just be skipped over
a lot of these pages need a bit of polish for loading states but overall this is really usable now
this ended up pretty cute and saves are working nicely now .. time to do the create post page since then i can release a demo to friends :3
To update on where we’re at: - Media processing pipeline for cdn is pretty much prepared now - The ingest code has been cleaned up and optimised - The frontends design and colour scheme is finished - Branding is still WIP - Lexicon schemas for xrpc endpoints are still being finalised too
Still working away on things ^^ Please save anything you’d like to keep from Tenor ahead of time! When gifdex launches you can bring all your media over day 1
Gifdex will be using this as a base for our blob CDN and will be taking full advantage of the policy service to do content takedowns at the CDN layer c:
I've released my first tagged version of Porxie alongside a write-up which details why I built it and why non-Bluesky ATProto platforms should consider moving away from using Bluesky's CDN. I've been using it to replace cdn.bsky.app while browsing Bluesky for 2 weeks now, and it's been great.
honestly i think i could have something ready to release by march at this rate considering ive got this far in about a week and a bit most of this (minus homepage) is pulling live data from my appview/cdn and core functionality like likes/upload/etc are all mostly functional now
toying around with profile layouts, I think I'm almost happy the gif display but the rest of the profile needs work (testing on actual appview responses from real processed records now with images loaded via my own cdn)
okay the appview/api for @gifdex.net is pretty much in a working state now so it's time to actually get to work on making a site
I'll make a logo when I'm done with the code because I'll bikeshed myself on that the most
got a bit distracted working on a tap client but im onto the cdn stuff for gifs next also finally picked out a domain for lexicons, will all be under @gifdex.net when done
