I'm buzzing! Excuse the pun! Not a rare species, I know, but in the 26 years I've lived where I am now, I have never seen a Wool Carder Bee here. Last summer, on the IOW, I bought a Stachys with the sole intention of attracting one and today, one turned up - SE Kent, 22 June.
I found this unspotted ladybird near Stodmarsh (East Kent) on 16th June. It looks like a 24-spot without it's spots but the possibility of it being a Cynegetis sp (probably C. impunctata) has been suggested elsewhere - which if it was, would, I think, be a first for the UK.
Three 'good' ladybirds from Stodmarsh, East Kent on 16th June. Two of 7 Water Ladybirds, 1 of 2 Spotted Red Marsh and a single Red Marsh Ladybird, which is the first time I've found this species at this site.
I have spent many an hour searching countless Wood Spurge plants looking for the spurge bug, Dicranocephalus medius with no success, until the 8th May 2026, at Samphire Hoe, Kent, when I found this individual. I'm not sure what the two white patches are - probably chalk.
I came across this female Sympetrum fonscolombii (Red-veined Darter) at Samphire Hoe on 8th May. It may yet prove to be the first British record for 2026.
A rather smart fungus weevil - Platystomus albinus - from Covert Woods in SE Kent - 7th April
Three of six Cream-streaked Ladybirds found in Lympne (SE Kent) on 6th April.
My first Anthophora plumipes (Hairy-footed Flower Bee), a male, was seen on the garden on the 9th March. This male is one of two seen in the garden today (11th March). SE Kent.
