Mildly interesting fact: With Aubry's win in #Survivor50, Survivor: Kaôh Rōng is now the first all-newbie season with more than one finalist who goes on to win the game. All-Stars is the only other season where this is true. Heroes vs. Villains and Winners at War also had previous winners make FTC.

While I obviously enjoyed the outcome of the coin flip in last week's #Survivor50 episode, it very easily could have gone very wrong. One of the things people didn't like was if nobody volunteered, everyone would draw rocks to see who picked it. Here's my idea to make that aspect better:

Everybody gets a colored rock; one rock represents wanting to flip the coin, and the other represents not wanting to. In secret, everybody picks their rock and reveals. If NOBODY wants to flip the coin: The prize pot is still increased to $2 million, but nobody gets an advantage or is instantly eliminated. MrBeast leaves to go kick rocks and the vote continues as normal. If ONE PERSON wants to flip the coin: They get to. If MULTIPLE PEOPLE want to flip the coin: They must decide amongst themselves who wants to. Not only does this ensure nobody is forced to flip the coin, it also creates an interesting dilemma between picking what's good for the group (not flipping the coin to help get a guaranteed million added to the prize pot), or good for yourself (risking self-elimination and keeping a million dollars from your fellow competitors by flipping the coin)...I suspect if this were the mechanism, the outcome would probably still be the same, with only Rick volunteering to flip the coin. This is also changing nothing about the risk or reward of the coin itself – which I think is a bigger issue, as IMO default eliminations should never happen in Survivor – but I'm not totally sure about a fix that works for that.

I really hope tonight's episode turns out good somehow, because I just had an absolutely atrocious shift at work and I don't think I have the energy to sit through two hours of random chance screwing over another one of my favorite players. #Survivor50

At work today, I was talking with someone whose only exposure to Survivor was a commercial for next week's #Survivor50 episode where MrBeast shows up. I promptly apologized and explained that no, in fact, the show has not always been like that.

Once again couldn't tune into the #Survivor50 episode live last night, so here's my live-for-me-but-not-anyone-else-posting thread! I don't even think last week's thread was my best work but it obviously got the most publicity, so there's a lot of pressure on this week's thread...lol

So after sitting with it for a little while, I think the pairs twist for this week of #Survivor50 is probably better than I originally gave it credit for. Maybe this is partially just because I've now seen the discourse surrounding it that's overwhelmingly positive, and I'd say I'm still lower...
