Actually I think I have a plan I think basically, I will use the "priority bit" to split rendering into a "low layer" and "high layer" and then add a flag which makes the "high layer" overlay with the low layer for any pixel that comes from the last palette row (out of 8 palette rows total)

Somewhat considering borrowing the shadow/highlight mode of the Genesis for GameJimmy but instead of hardcoded color math it lets you apply one of two configurable overlay colors to any given pixel on the screen 🤔

Thinking about how the Sega Genesis VDP apparently has an extra line for palette row that just isn't used, and there's apparently arcade hardware which uses the same VDP & basically re-routes the unused line to double the number of palettes

Used to be that the fact that things happen simultaneously instead of sequentially tripped me up w/ FPGAs But I've grown & changed & learned a lot since then. Now it's the fact that memory reads always seem to take one more clock cycle than I thought.

Things I like about MyHDL: - decent syntax - very easy to write testbenches, can just debug it directly in VSCode - transpiles right into Verilog Things I don't like so much: - completely worthless error call stacks because I dared to use a "value if (condition) else other_value" somewhere

Found another HUGE ant incursion this morning out of a power outlet next to the back door (they found the trash can) Cleaned up, gave em some bait, now they are chowing down lol

Apparently the Pokemon name "Furfrou" activates my dog Nova I have no idea what she thinks I'm saying, but she sure thinks I'm saying it

As a bit of a test I made a baking soda + powdered sugar + water concoction (I do not have borax on hand, but I've heard baking soda is also a stomach disruptor albeit less effective) I will say, they are IMMEDIATELY interested in it, which does make me think borax would probably work really well

Think I might need to try the Borax & sugar water thing because wow these ants do not give a single fuck about the Raid baits

The more I mess with this the more I realize how tight this timing is It might not be nearly as easy as I thought, could require some really aggressive pipelining to get it to work
