I have unknowingly been eating caffeinated chocolate right before bed for the past few weeks 🫩 At least I now know why I wasn't sleeping till 5 am.

There's a lot of talk about an AI race with China but after seeing this tweet: x.com/kotekjedi_ml... I'm starting to wonder if Chinese labs are actually moving AI forward or just really good at distilling existing models and doing some training on top of them. What if US labs are racing a mirror

As you might guess, this suggests that distilling reasoning traces may have been possible for a long time without ever breaking the cryptography. An anecdote: we find that prefilling Kimi-K3 reasonin...

Some interesting ideas in here. But also feels incredibly flawed and forced: www.noemamag.com/why-is-every... Like it has to work backwards from: bullshit jobs are bad, AI is replacing them, but AI is bad, so that means the future has to be even worse.

Why Is Everyone In Tech So Sad? | NOEMA

A lot of people seem to be realizing that knowledge work is mostly pointless. AI might give us the pleasure of finding out what happens if an entire class of workers loses faith in their careers.

I ended up listening to the counter argument more or less: youtu.be/nXVmcmj8HCA I think it was well reasoned, but I think I still lean slightly towards inequality not being a big deal. But it is hard to measure so it could really go either way.

Why you should worry more about inequality | Prof. Morten Nyborg Støstad

Funnily enough, the next podcast I listened to on a complementary issue was a lot more interesting: youtu.be/ziVSakxDaPk Pointing out if inequality leads to the rich having more political influence why did the biggest tax cuts happen in the US in 81 when inequality was at its lowest (as one example)

What a catchy tune Em Beihold's Brutus is! Although was Brutus jealous of Caesar? I thought he was more motivated by saving the Republic. Maybe I'm being too literal... I'm really on a sassy streak.

The lead actors were married around the time of filming but divorced 3 years later. For some reason I find myself mourning their real life relationship after watching even though they must've moved on by now considering it was 10 years ago. Parasocialism is weird.

Blood punch needed to spend more time on the sound mixing (especially considering how many times you hear that vomit effect). But it has a very satisfying ending that makes up for its flaws. I'll give it a break since it is an indie film after all.

Is "many such cases" the trumpism with the most staying power? Mocking Trump phrases seem like less of a thing in Trump 2 (beyond a week or two) and it's not like people are saying "covfefe" anymore. Maybe saying "China" with a Trump inflection? But it's not quite the same.

With things like the suspension of @meidamarek_ on x, I'm surprised that community hasn't moved to bluesky. Perhaps they view bluesky as just another centralized platform? Or maybe the network effects are still too strong?

No one asked Mark to bridge his threads account yet?! I thought for sure it would reply it already asked 🫨 Someone more important than me should've made the request!

My DMs with Bridgy Fed with 5 messages. The first from bridgy fed saying it bridged my account. The second and third are me asking it ask @mosseri@threads.net to bridge his account and it saying it already asked. And the fourth and fifth are me asking it to ask Mark Zuckerberg to bridge his threads account to bluesky and it replying that it will send a message to him.

Imagine streaming on multiple platforms (twitch, youtube, etc) and all chats showed the same messages. That's the atproto future I dream of 🥹

Is there a solution to conveying to the average user, "if you have a did/pds please let me know so I can write to it" that isn't forcing them to authenticate via a bluesky account they may or may not have? You can create your own for them, but then they might have two.

What's more valuable: expressing a point on a microblogging site or on Reddit? Paradoxically, while Reddit has a literal reputation system, I think it's easier to build more renowned on a microblogging site.

While the junk fee exemption for restaurants, SB 1524, is billed as some politician sanctioned scheme for restaurants to squeeze more from customers. It looks like it's really a negotiation between restaurant owners and employees to give employees more benefits without raising the price of food.

Just connected to bridgy fed. I forgot about it until now and this will serve as a good test post. Unless it's supposed to grab your past history and I did something wrong 😲

I set up my rotation key. I'm ready to be adversarial! Although, like I think I saw Dan Abramov say somewhere, it's going to be pretty difficult for the average user to do. On top of making little sense what its purpose is. And you would still need the know how to reclaim it later...
