Ok. Hear me out. Resolume fluid simulation effect. I basically just took github.com/PavelDoGreat... and an optical flow algorithm and shoved em together. It adds fluid simulation to whatever video input you give it instead of needing you to like touch it with your mouse or fingers.
I think every HRT prescription should come with a free APC-40. Just saying.
VHS Pro v2 is coming along. I managed to get my initial implementation down from 116ms per field to 4.24ms per field (910x262, it's interlaced). You'd think this would scale horribly at higher resolutions if I'm already at 50% of the 60fps frame budget, but GPUs are weird and don't scale linearly.
Bsky is gonna absolutely murder this video, but uh, damn that's one fucked up fake VHS tape (I probably need to work on the stage 6 shader a little more)
No actual hardware was involved in the making of this image. I simulated the RF output from a tape and fed that into vhs-decode. This is the resulting image. It's got some issues but I'm getting real damn close. The fact that I'm able to get a picture out of vhs-decode at all with this is amazing.
It's black and white, and blurry as fuck, but I just successfully generated a signal that I was able to decode with vhs-decode (github.com/oyvindln/vhs...) with no actual VCR involved.

It's been a wild ride optimizing this today, but I think I've reached a point where I'm happy with the performance. (1 / 0.001813 = 551.6 FPS... minus the Resolume FFGL overhead anyway) I think I'm gonna call a 2.39x speedup good enough, lol.
