I am a gorgeous thoroughbred mare in the cosmos who puts the MARE in nightmare! I'm about horses, humans and the pop culture zeitgeist! Website: www.freshstart-tblc.org

After Surfer tried to dominate when K was walking Pie out of their paddock area, K pushed him away and he fled in tears. After Pie’s workout, K talked it through with Surfer, who has the least herd manners since he spent his whole youth in stalls.

Part of Surfer’s horsonality is “reading the room wrong out of good intention”, which he does and it gets him misunderstood. When Hackleton got his abscess, Surfer thought he should take over herd leadership. This, of course, did not go over well with anyone.

Hackleton continues to feel better. Freddy, our farrier, comes tomorrow to continue Hackleton’s recovery from the abscess and side effects of shivers. Meanwhile we monitor the drawing salve bandage and his pain meds. Keep those prayers coming! Chocorama!

Everyone, due to YOUR prayers and good thoughts, excellent vet care and support, Hackleton is doing much better today. We are not out of the woods yet, but he’s moving, so Nileist can guard him during sleep time! We are developing an ongoing plan of healing and will share as soon as we solidify it!

Hackleton, at dinner after bute. He’s stayed up near water tonight. Nileist misses him at dinner, but he must stay near his water. Keep sending prayers for the abscess to drain, and for Hackleton to sleep. This will be slow and steady.

K also had Nileist be the first to free jump the oak tree jump. It was a revelation how easy it was when he didn’t try to jump it with all four legs at once. These are the bizarre things we reason through with Nileist…
