The gap between Yopa and Holom (1st map) isn't FAR but it's a sheer cliff that you can't sail between without travelling days out of the way to find an accessible port. Northern Yopa is similar going into Zipan. Map 2 has the Fjords of Kabra that butt up to mountains. I love my fjords #CartAugust

Kal and Betti were my sorta meet cute but love at first sight is someone else. Big snip. But also knowing this gives the first books a different perspective. SPOILER WARNINGS! This is from a file that takes place somewhere before book 3. I wrote it YEARS ago, so finding this was a trip... #SumLuv

"You know how people pass by all the time down one of these roads? It eventually goes to the Holom part in that direction and Teo in that one." "I'm aware. We use them all the time ourselves. Magnar, what's this about?" "Just listen. I was eight years old, helping my father in the fields when a carriage passed by. It wasn't fancy, but it wasn't one of those wagon types. We didn't see things like that often, so it really caught my attention, but what caught my eye was the occupant. I couldn't really tell you much about the person inside it at all, but it was a girl younger than me with a lot of sadness in her eyes and hair that was the color of spring and the ocean in one. Though, to be honest, I never even saw the seas at that age, I just knew that's what color it would be. So, here I am, some farm kid who only knew a few people and I was suddenly consumed with the thought of her. I told Palen, of course. He was really my only friend and he made fun of me mercilessly. How can you love someone you don't even know? That's stupid! That was his reaction and if the roles were reversed, I probably would have made fun of him too. But there was something about it I never let go, so when the girl from a few farms over that was in our little school that wasn't even really enough to be a school, but we learned to read and write from it, said she liked me, I turned her down and went about my business. Palen liked her a lot, so he got really mad at me for making her upset and for making her like me, which was never anything I actually did. But it wasn't much longer after that Cualli approached me and I turned her down too. I know their family situation was hard and she would have been in a better place if she stayed, but she was a little like a sister, so I never thought I could really love her either." "Magnar, where are you going with this?" She was wondering if she needed to chide him for something, but she didn't know what."Let me finish. I'm almost done. Anyway, years go by. I work with my father, momma does what she does, life goes on. Then I lost momma, then papa and I was alone. I thought I could do everything myself, but I struggled. Then, as my father had done, I went to Holom to find extra work for money. As soon as you walked into that pub, I was eight years old again. Honestly, your contract could have said anything on it and I would have signed it if I got to stay with you." Loke was silent and looked out over the porch. She listened and understood what he was saying but she had no idea how to reply. Magnar was still holding her hand and she knew he was waiting to see what she was going to say and it took a moment, but she finally started to laugh. "That might be your most incredible tale ever. Have you told that one to Asta? I'm sure she'd rather it be more exciting." "Loke, stop. Look at me." He put his free hand on her face and turned it towards him. "It wasn't a story. When I saw that girl in the carriage, I knew who my destiny belonged to. I have zero doubts that you were that girl." "You can't be sure it was me. I would have been, what, six?" "Which is when your parents passed, right?" She stumbled on her words. "But that could have been anyone. My hair color isn't so unique that I'd be the only one." "When you're sad, you have the same look in your eyes. And I can feel it, deep inside. I was looking at the same person in that pub that I looked at as a kid. And it's the same person next to me. I got angry because I thought Cualli may have told you about that. I didn't want you to hear it from someone else without me telling you first."

In Holom, no specialized schools but apprenticeships for just about most fields can be had, if someone wants to take you. Most other countries have similar models. Zipan for a while had ONLY military schools. #AugustWorldbuilders

Closest thing I have is when Kal and Betti first encountered each other. Kal was 3, Betti... 41. Their meeting 20 years later was less cute XD (Betti used to hit on his dad 10 years prior, and Kal is a mini version of him - for some added background) #SumLuv

----flashback---- “Well, what do we have here?” Betti crouched down in front of a small Kalua that had stopped to stare at him. “Are you afraid of me?” Kalua shook his head. “No.” “My name is Betti. What’s yours?” “Kalua.” His eyes sparkled as he stared at Betti. Betti took Kalua’s tiny hand and kissed it. “Your highness, try to remember me someday. I’d be glad to serve a handsome prince like yourself. You’re bound to be a lady killer, so try not to make me so jealous, ok?” Kalua tilted his head, trying to process so many new words and short circuited, only replying obediently. “Of course, thank you.” “Ah, your majesty. I was just greeting the young prince. I hope I didn’t upset you.” Loke bent down to pick up Kalua and held him on her hip. “No, it’s no problem. I’ll meet you for the briefing in a few moments. If you’ll excuse me.” With Loke’s back to Betti, Kalua stared back at the giant in the foyer and Betti blew a kiss in his direction. -----end flashback-----

Loke does NOT really take crit well. She gets really defensive of it. Depending what it is, it'll be anger or a full meltdown (I think it's chapter 5 this happens) Magnar usually takes it in stride unless it's from Loke, then it's just a verbal war #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

It tells Agha’s story, but I don’t know how to reach him.” Loke sighed but was caught off guard again by Balan when he climbed up on the table. “What are you doing?” “It looks like a pool of water to me. I figured maybe I could just take a quick dip to cool off!” Before anyone could comment about how absurd his suggestion was, he sank into the table as if it had been made of water and only a single ripple flowed at the surface.

Gonna stick with Holom schools since they don't have private schools. Mostly only compulsory for the littles to learn the basics of reading and writing with some social sciences. actual science not so much.
