You're looking at the first and only iNaturalist record of a Puno Shade Lizard (Alopoglossus andeanus)! Reptile identifier Pete Zani noted the keeled scales on the side of its neck, smooth and bluntly pointed belly scales, and a few other features that align with the description of this species.

Researchers have identified superparamagnetic macrophages in the livers of rock pigeons to be crucial for magnetic sensing. The finding uncovers an unexpected role for immune cells in sensory perception and may fundamentally change our understanding of animal navigation. https://scim.ag/4nTQ3nq

How animals sense Earth’s magnetic field is one of biology’s enduring mysteries. Researchers have now identified superparamagnetic macrophages in the livers of rock pigeons (Columba livia) to be crucial for magnetic sensing. The finding uncovers an unexpected role for immune cells in sensory perception and may fundamentally change our understanding of animal navigation.

Using nearly a decade of satellite data, researchers in Science show how glaciers worldwide speed up and slow down with the changing of the seasons—annual rhythms that reveal how Earth’s ice may respond to long-term climate warming. https://scim.ag/4oocEad

Seasonal dynamics of Earth’s glaciers and ice sheets

The sensitivity of Earth’s glaciers to environmental change is on display each year as they change speed with the seasons, and a glacier’s response to warming from winter to summer may help predict it...
