BUT he has the skills to do it. could we crowdfund this?

Grampa ran a service station in with his brother after he came back from WWII. Ran as in owned and operated. He was a hell of a mechanic. Grandaddy worked at/managed a machine shop after HE came home from WWII. He was also a hell of a mechanic.
