There is a smaller, dark brown bone and, above it, a larger, thicker, ochre-coloured bone – both photographed on a black background. The bones belong to the skeleton of straight-tusked elephant – the largest land mammal known to have roamed Europe. The surfaces of the bones are very sharp which shows they are exceptionally well preserved. There is a ruler (bottom left) in black and white which looks about 10cm long.
