Rook thought varric was being her mentor at the lighthouse... 🥲💔 She and Emmrich don't have kids but she becomes kind of a Cool Aunt to some of his students and assorted young adults in the necropolis as time goes on, some of those relationships would wind up feeling a little mentor-y I am sure

I've been thinking lately about the situation with rook's childhood and family life and really wondering if I'll wind up writing about some sort of confrontation/resolution at some point. I don't have all the details clear enough yet but maybe someday!

It would be about Rook finding a sense of self-worth as something other than a Grey Warden (which she does not feel great about to begin with) and/or tracking down & confronting the man who abused her and her mother and either killing him or deciding to let him be alive and miserable instead

Rook's birthday is in winter, near the beginning of the year. As a child celebrations were pretty minimal but her mother did make her a special meal/dessert; sweets were rare so it was very exciting for her. As an adult she hasn't really celebrated or thought about her birthday much.

Something that often doesn't work for me when reading fic about a game like this with a large collection of party members/allies is when everyone's best friends in a frictionless way. Not that I think everyone has to be at odds, but it's natural for even a group of close friends

Oh NO I made myself very sad thinking about Rook as, instead, a recruited grey warden (I'm imagining my first Rook, cutie dwarf hazel mercar, being the one to take her on) and how reserved and shut down she'd be when she first got to the lighthouse, coming right from the wardens without any

Rook has excellent focus in general but she will always notice cats when she's out and about in the city. If nothing else, she'll take a moment to admire them, but if she isn't in a hurry she will give them a little pet if they're receptive. Emmrich can be a distraction too, esp. if she's in A Mood

Rook does get along with everyone eventually, but it took the longest for her to be comfortable around Davrin because of her history with other Wardens. Perhaps unfairly (but also understandably), she was concerned that he'd try to treat her poorly just as many of the men at Weisshaupt did...

Rook would never suggest it, not because she opposes the idea but because it isn't something she's ever considered. She'd try it, and I think she'd enjoy it, but a lot of that would be more because Emmrich was wild about it than her own pleasure directly. It would be an occasional treat, I think.

it hasn't come up in fic but Rook enjoys mysteries (Bellara loves the romance serials, Rook goes for the mystery ones, although she likes when there's romance in there too) and I just thought about how much she'd love the Phryne Fisher books/show

Rook is still learning how to be really affectionate and sweet after not feeling safe enough or close enough to the people around her to let that side of herself show. But she really WANTS to show her friends how much she cares. It's easier with Emmrich but even there she's still adjusting.

once my current fic is fully posted I will be focusing more on smaller/shorter stories I think, and I would love to play around with Emmrich's POV more. Writing love letters from his POV was SO fun, as was the short fic I wrote about him & Dorian. Now I need to write some sex scenes from his POV.

A lot of Rook/Emmrich romance I saw focused on either sexual dynamics or other characteristics I am not interested in, and I'm proud of the thought I put into crafting a big powerful Rook with a difficult sexual history who Emmrich wants to worship (& to be lifted by like a sack of potatoes)
