Now that we’re past the deadline and the draft, it’s the bittersweet season when veteran players are designated for assignment or released from minor league teams. Some will not find new jobs. Pour one out for these guys who are entering involuntary retirement even if they don’t know it yet.

My favorite part of the Bailey Falter Era was looking him up when he was traded because I thought he’d already been released but finding out he was only designated for assignment and cleared waivers.

“Once” is a little gem of a movie, and “Falling Slowly” is a lovely song, but in the scene when Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová sing this song and it all comes together, it stops being a movie and becomes something genuine.
