This week, we're celebrating our fantastic Editorial Board, a nearly 50-scholar strong group of dedicated folks that really make our journal work. Board members have completed more than 100 reviewers, and *every single Board member* has reviewed for us so far - averaging 25 days to complete.
Global Perspectives in Communication (GPC)
@gpccomm.bsky.social
Global Perspectives in Communication (GPC) publishes rigorous, iterative, and impactful scholarship covering all conceivable dimensions of communication studies. As an open-access journal, we elevate the availability and impact of top-tier scholarship.
Earlier today, Editor-in-Chief @bowmanspartan.bsky.social spoke with more than 120 students and early career scholars from Kenya, Nigeria, and other African nations on dispelling myths about academic publishing.
Y'all, we are growing very quickly. In fact, we're going to probably need to expand our Editorial Board before too long, to keep up with the steady uptick in submissions.

🚨NEW SUBMISSION TYPE! 🚨 Very recently, we've been asked by more and more authors about the types of articles we accept. We've mostly asked Authors to submit completed studies rooted in some finished product: some finalized analysis that contributes to the published scholarly record.
Curious about our journal but still not *quite sure* you get what we're looking for? In partnership with @icahdq.bsky.social, we've asked our Editor-in-Chief @bowmanspartan.bsky.social to give a bit of insight into GPC. Read more, at academic.oup.com/gpc/pages/me...

Okay, folks! Our team is back from #ICA26 and diving back into the editorial system now. Very special thanks for everyone's patience as we catch up on the submission backlog. If you have *any* questions, know that you can contact @bowmanspartan.bsky.social directly, or ping us here.
Morning, folks! Our team is off to @icahdq.bsky.social's 76th conference today and so, we'll be in #ICA26 Cape Town until June 10th. Most of our team will be there also, so we'll be a bit slower to process manuscripts until we get back.

Oh heck! Our editor @bowmanspartan.bsky.social got so caught up in the semester than he just now realized - Issue 2 is rolling out. =)
So ... we heard a rumor that both the @nat-com.bsky.social and @aejmc.bsky.social manuscript submissions are right about now (#NCA26 passed, #AEJMC26 coming up). Sounds to us like The Best Time to send those papers right over to Global Perspectives in Communication, eh? All COM, all open-access. =)

In our debut issue, editor-in-chief @bowmanspartan.bsky.social offers context for our Global charge and gives a bit of history on the role that journals play in the health of disciplines and associations: academic.oup.com/gpc/article/... For us? 75+ years into @icahdq.bsky.social. =)
How do we get "lost" in a story? Is it the same in places like Poland, Peru, or Japan? 📖🌍 We validated the Narrative Transportability Scale in a global sample: ✅ 8,800+ participants ✅ 50 countries ✅ 21 languages Out now in the inaugural issue of @gpccomm.bsky.social doi.org/10.1093/gpco...

About nine months ago, we asked ourselves "what does it mean to be Global in the 21st Century?" We pondered this with @icahdq.bsky.social and @academic.oup.com and the end result? Volume 1, Issue 1 of Global Perspectives in Communication.
As you're planning your #ICA26, we're bringing back our Peer Review Workshop from #ICA25. It's scheduled for Monday 8 June, 13:30 in Ballroom West. The workshop is led by our Editor-in-Chief @bowmanspartan.bsky.social and he'll walk through the theory and practice of peer review. Don't miss it!

For the start of the year, we thought we'd do a quick update on the journal from launch to date, rather than just the last two months. How are we looking 8 months in? Let's check it out! So ... for some (ac)counting ...

A question we often get, "is it okay if our data comes from the United States?" Absolutely. For us, "Global" means "everywhere." Ours is an inclusive journal looking for work that speaks to communication scholarship from everywhere. Our hope? Work from all perspectives is side-by-side at GPC. =)

We're still building our Starter Pack for @gpccomm.bsky.social but here's a sampling of those folks on our board and part of our journal. =)
We've been asked what makes our editorial process different. Well ... in some ways, we're not so unique. We're aspiring to be a top-tier journal of International Communication Association (ICA Official Page) and we're generally open to anything that fits "under the ICA umbrella."
It's time again for our bi-monthly reporting! Since we're still in our first hear, we've chosen to do these as "year-to-date" reports to give a full picture of the journal to this point in 2025. A few highlights as we thread along.
We get it. We're a very new journal & folks are still learning how we are. Check out this 5-minute explanation from Launch Editor @bowmanspartan.bsky.social, as he sat down with @academic.oup.com to talk about who we are as @icahdq.bsky.social's newest publication: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TF5...
