Sean Jordan | Sharing Great Games You Probably Never Played!

There are tons of amazing video games that have been forgotten, overlooked or which never found an audience. I'm a researcher who's going through them and finding the Greatest Games You (Probably) Never Played! Website: https://greatestgames.substack.com
Anyhow, time to go write a script for my (work-related) podcast on how some media companies are now serving ads to AI agents in the hopes of persuading them instead of human users. This is what the Web is becoming! Be ready for an even worse experience.
Time has started serving ads to AI agents
Time is selling ads targeting AI agents, betting that markdown pages will make its content (and advertisers) more visible in AI search.

I have colleagues who just ASSUME I'm using AI for my marketing research work. When I tell them, "nope, I have staff and we do it all ourselves by hand," they're stunned that we're willing to work so hard when, "you know AI can do it for you, right?" But cheaper and faster doesn't equal better.
The only thing that would change about my work day is that all the pro-AI people I know would be running around shouting, "I don't know how to do this!". Even AI note-taking isn't hard to replace with a human and a keyboard. It's really not the transformative tech people are saying it is.
I hate it when good games get caught up in bad deals like this!
It’s official. Emerald City Confidential is now owned by Saudi Arabia.
And yes, I realize the bulk of this list is Activision games. There's a reason for that! Atari's best game devs left to form Activision, and then Atari itself broke into two pieces. Activision kept the Atari 2600 fires burning in 1982-1984 and released some of their best games then!
Let's continue my series of threads with 10 lesser-known games you should play on each major console platform. These non-exhaustive lists may include cult classics or collector faves, but they're generally games I don't see mentioned as often. Today: the Atari 2600! #gaming #retrogames #videogames

Intrepid is a great 80s arcade game from Canada that allows you to sneak into an embassy and steal things, sort of like Elevator Action with a more complex heist. It's well worth your time to check out! (I'm so glad the emulation community has preserved it!) #videogames #gaming #retrogames
The Classic Arcade and Console Era (1972-1989) - Intrepid
A fun and sneaky Canadian arcade game about infiltrating an embassy while avoiding guards.

Cory Doctorow is one of the sanest voices out there right now regarding AI. And @grundislav.games is right on the money. Just like cynical asset flips don't usually meet the definition of "game," AI-created "games" have the same issue. They're just a regurgitation of what a real game actually is!
This is a fantastic article. I’ve had so many people tell me AI will somehow magically allow them to make a game. It won’t. You know what will? Self-discipline. If you lack the ability to see something through, that’s not changing with AI. www.thenerve.news/p/cory-docto...
As a reminder, leveraged buyouts are not only a predatory and frankly terrible financial mechanism for a healthy company with positive revenues, but also absolutely designed to make the rich richer and cut those companies to the bone. EA's stockholders got their payout for the privilege.
EA officially goes private tonight, meaning: - EA will no longer trade on the NASDAQ for the first time in 36 years - All stockholders of EA (including many employees) will receive $210/share - EA will take on $18 billion (!) in debt, putting it on the hook to pay ~$1.8 billion/year in interest
Also a correct take on the EA situation! The worst people own one of the most unpopular game publishers of all time and plan to use it for purposes beyond merely making exploitative games and destroying development studios. It's absolutely stunning and a turning point for gaming.
"saudi arabia owns EA" is going to be the headline you see basically everywhere for this one but "jared kushner is about to use EA as a vehicle for trump administration bribes" is equally relevant imo
Definitely read this thread to understand some of the major issues with the EA leveraged buyout by PIF. Long story short: It's gonna hurt the devs still employed by EA the most and potentially restrict their ability to tell stories that are diverse and inclusive.
I'm sorry to be the Debbie Downer, but if you're a gamer you NEED to be paying attention to this story. I'm going to pull some critical quotes from the piece in the replies.

Likewise, The Mermaid Mask is enjoying some great success! So happy to see them thriving!
It's astonishing to me that The Mermaid Mask has only been out for 2 and a half weeks and we've already got over 2000 reviews on Steam... (and 99% positive!)
Some GOOD news for the day. Forbidden Solitaire continues to do well!
2000 reviews! Well I didn't expect this before we launched but I'll take it. :-)
Welp, I guess I'm formally done buying EA games for the forseeable future (unless they're secondhand or somehow come in a bundle with other games). It's a shame! But I can't imagine they were ever going to be anything but the worst.
EA is now owned by Saudi Arabia and Donald Trump's son-in-law
I quit reading Polygon years ago and haven't looked back. Their modern version isn't good for anything but stirring the pot with bad takes and ragebait.
I swear, this is the clickbaity fucking bullshit that drives me up a wall.
Interesting... I've never played nor even heard of Knife Edge (and yes, it did get a US release)! I'll have to check it out.
New blog post time! This week's game is Knife Edge: Nose Gunner, an often overlooked N64 rail shooter that looks bland at first glance, but is actually very distinct within the console's library. It's atmospherically compelling, mechanically competent, and it even has 4-player co-op! #blog #gaming
If you need a deep dive into the Bloody Roar series of ultra-niche animal morphing 3D fighting games, HG101's got you covered!
We've been posting it over a couple of weeks, but the full article series on Bloody Roar, the 3D anthro fighting game, is now complete! www.hardcoregaming101.net/series/blood...
To know Mach Breakers is to love it. This game is absolutely nuts and I wish there were more super-powered Olympiad games like it!
Mach Breakers: Numan Athletics 2 (Arcade, Namco, 1995)
It's interesting (and not at all surprising) that all the top 20 games on PS5 and Xbox beyond Palworld are franchise staples and live service games. On Steam, the pattern holds as well, though the indie games played the most right now are Meccha Chamelion and Slay the Spire 2.
Why do companies keep chasing live service games? The weekly PlayStation and Xbox most played games chart reveals the answer perfectly
Can you guess what the biggest PlayStation and Xbox games are at the moment? I bet you can.

If you've never played Alisia Dragoon, check out my piece today on The Greatest Games You (Probably) Never Played to find out why it should be your next retro game to try! This team-up between Game Arts and Studio Gainax looks great and offers some excellent action! #gaming #videogames #retrogames
The 16-bit Arcade and Console Era (1990-1995) - Alisia Dragoon
Take the production values of animation studio Gainax and mix it with the mechanics of Thexder to get this fantastic fantasy and sci-fi fusion!

I'm skeptical that this deal is a good one. It either means GameStop has dropped what they're giving on controllers to offset all the broken ones they'll be taking in or that they're about to try to refurbish a bunch of broken controllers and resell them for a profit. Or maybe both!
Get The Same Trade In Credit As a Working Controller When You Trade In a Broken Controller via GameStop. Ends August 15th. Trade In Values: https://ow.ly/oe6F50ZvZRS #ad
