Talk about a surprise role. Humphrey Bogart plays a vampire in 1939’s “The Return of Doctor X”
Great episode of @comiclab.bsky.social! @davekellett.bsky.social and @dylanmeconis.bsky.social are great together. Though, the ending reminded me: they’ve been promising to read reviews for years and not one review has been read…little sus 🤣

Without saying your age, what’s your favorite movie that came out when you were 18? This was a tough call, but I gotta go with…

Fuck all the way off with this noise...
Love this column from @cgcumber.bsky.social about Marvel and DC being unwilling to take chances on new characters.
How corporations are killing Big Comics
Why is it that the independent and small-press scene in comics seems to be thriving, and yet the Big Two, multibillion-dollar intellectual property factories, haven’t put out an original character

The French Foreign Legion said, “we need something elegant for our emblem;” while the Spanish Foreign Legion said, “put all the weapons in there…I said ALL the weapons!”

This is painfully true. 1. As an indie creator you are lucky if comic cons are “hit and miss,” most are miss. 2. It’s impossible to drive traffic to your site with social media or SEO. 3. Your mailing list can still drive traffic and sales. But enough to make comic creation sustainable?
I'm so sick of running Kickstarter campaigns, but they really are the best thing ever when it comes to making indie comics.
This is one of the reasons that I think comic shops are so important. They are one of the last vestiges of anti-enshittification. The good ones are filled with wonderful weirdos who love comics and have deep knowledge. They love to geek out over your favorite comics and make recommendations.
It wasn’t just geeky stuff like movies/comics, 20th century brick-n-mortar stores used to employ all kinds of weirdos who knew everything about something and LOVED to help. Radio Shack had circuitry weirdos! Sears had vacuum cleaner weirdos! Shirt weirdos! Garden weirdos! Hat weirdos!
I swear to the gods that @madcavestudios.com has a research department dedicated to finding comic adaptations of movies that *I* love and reprinting them. All I can say is, good on you Mad Cave, take all my damned money. Geez…Al Williamson doing Flash Gordon is the best!
Love this conversation around John Byrne on this week’s Awesome Comics Podcast. He has been so impactful on modern comics. Do you have a favorite John Byrne run? Great conversation @vanguardcomic.bsky.social & @jesterdiablo.bsky.social!

On this week’s @comiclab.bsky.social , @bradguigar.com referred to his booths when he used to do Comic Cons as “Islands of Tranquility” and yea, I’ve had those comic cons. That’ll be my version of Obsession: a horror movie about a comic con booth that no one can see and the artist trapped in it.

I love the fact that @madcavestudios.com greenlit a comic so ridiculous and over the top that you can’t talk about it on any social media platforms without getting demonetized 🤯🤩! And, I also love that everyone knows exactly which comic I’m talking about.
I Don’t Know How to Talk About This Comic Without Getting De-Monetized 🤯💰🦛!
