Three 2 month well visits today: Vaccine conversations with all 3 families. All 3 asked if my practice is following the AAP vaccine schedule or the Executive Order schedule. All 3 wanted their child to follow the AAP schedule. All 3 wanted to follow science and not politics. There is hope here.

Today was Dr. Annie Andrews' Birthday. And she spent it working to win her seat in the US Senate. I know Dr. Andrews. She would spend every working hour in the Senate working for people in SC. Let's all help to put her there.

@bsky.app Proud to collaborate with Dr. Martha Edwards and so grateful for the expertise and assistance of @emilymayersc.bsky.social on this opinion piece. Families deserve valid, evidence-based information to make the best decisions for their children. www.ms.now/opinion/cdc-...

Opinion | We are South Carolina pediatricians fighting for parents to get accurate info about vaccines

Martha Edwards and Deborah Greenhouse: Vaccines do not cause autism. We need a CDC that states that as truth.

Ralph Abraham, the No. 2 official at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, recently told reporters that losing the measles elimination status would be the “cost of doing business.” True. If your business is encouraging the resurgence of preventable diseases.

South Carolina is now experiencing the nation’s worst measles outbreak since the virus was declared eliminated a quarter century ago. @lenasun.bsky.social and photographer Juan Diego Reyes show what’s happening on the ground wapo.st/4rttZRg

I went to med school at @EmoryMedicine. Up the street from the CDC. I was in awe of the CDC and those who worked there to promote science and to protect health. Today, the CDC has fallen. In the name of conspiracy theory and disinformation. And I am crushed.

Pediatrician here. Misinformation and disinformation don't become facts just because the CDC posted them. Numerous studies have refuted any link between vaccines and autism. Zero studies have shown any link between vaccines and autism. Real science matters.

VAERS database reports will likely be used by RFK Jr to try to show a link between COVID vaccines and child deaths. But VAERS reports are neither data nor research. They are reports that anyone can submit on anything at any time in any place. They do not and cannot show causation.

A conservative activist was shot in Utah today. Children were shot at school in Colorado today. Both events were horrific and should never have happened. But we can't react to one as a great national tragedy and remain virtually silent about the other. That is what I see happening right now.

Pretty cool that RFK Jr, with no medical education or experience, can diagnose "mitochondrial challenges" or "inflammation" just by looking at children. I can't do that after med school and many years in pediatric practice. Then again, maybe he's just lying....again.

RFK Jr, who doesn’t have a medical degree, says he can diagnose children just by just looking at them

Today's PSA from your friendly neighborhood, science based, evidence driven pediatrician: If someone says they are going to find and announce the "certain" cause of a medical or developmental condition by a specific date, that's not science. That's propaganda, regardless of what their "finding" is.

Today's Call to Action: I can't make it any simpler than this. CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TODAY! Call this morning and ask them to vote no on the Big, Horrifically Bad Bill which will strip health care and healthy food from millions of children and families. Ask them to protect children.

AAP calls on U.S. House to reject cuts to Medicaid, SNAP

The budget reconciliation legislation cuts about $1 trillion from Medicaid, and AAP leaders said it will harm children, families and communities.

My Senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott just voted to take health care access away from many of my patients and their families. They voted to strip health care from thousands of their own constituents. I'm having a really hard time coming to grips with that.

RUIZ: Did you read the report & fact-check its sources prior to publication? RFK JR: I did not fact check RUIZ: It included citations to sources that don't exist. How does that happen? RFK JR: All of the foundational assertions are accurate RUIZ: They did not exist. How can they be accurate?

This one is a gut punch. Four ACIP members receive termination notices. Maybe there is nothing nefarious here. Maybe this is just a clerical issue. Maybe science can somehow still prevail. But if not, this is our all hands on deck moment. Our nation's health stands in the crossfire.
