Woke, left-wing, writer, anti-royalist, environmentalist, husband, father, and grandfather.

All political parties who accept huge donations are basically allowing themselves to be bought. Nobody believes these donations are from altruistic supporters. They are bribes, pure and simple.

Just WHY is there private healthcare in our #NHS? WHY do #Labour allow it? And WHY does Labour accept "donations" which is basically bribe money? Ah! I know the answer to that one, it's because they're as corrupt as the #Tories. 🙄

Any media outlet proven to have knowingly printed or broadcast lies which did or could have caused people harm, should be fined heavily and warned that they risk losing their licence if it's repeated. Self-regulation is a joke. We need an independent body who can implement tough punishments.

If politicians enacted policies that helped middle and bottom earners, rather than the richest 1% they would win every election. The reason they don't, is because it's the top 1% who have the money to buy them.

I wish we were more like the French. Try to do over the workers or pensioners and the country takes to the streets. Not afraid to speak the truth and call out despots, even if they are POTUS. Got rid of royalty and didn't let them back in again. Plus they're pretty good at food and drink.

Viva la France! 🇨🇵 🎓📚🌉🌁🇨🇵🇺🇦🇺🇳🇬🇧🇨🇦🇦🇺🇻🇪🇲🇽🇭🇺🇩🇪 Democracy! No Kings! Tax Billionaires! Faux News! Vote Blue! Freedom! Stand with Ukraine! Resist Tyrants! Unions! Education! Read! Math and Science! Don't do drugs!

British warships and marines can't enter French ports without permission of the French. And they certainly can't 'dump' migrants on French beaches. Zia Yusuf knows full well it's impossible to do, but who cares about that when you're only intention is to stir up your voter base with glib headlines.

If England wanted to leave the union, do you think they'd ask permission from the other countries first? Scotland wanted to remain in the EU, but were taken out against their will. Hold a referendum, and if the will of the Scottish people is to leave the union, then do it and nobody can stop you.

The SNP has won five Scottish elections in a row. Scotland wants Independence. Scotland deserves an Independence Referendum.

Americans treat the use of military power like some kind of video game, and some view it as a such when they see it on their TV screens. It might be far removed from them, but the chaos, destruction and mass killing is not a video game. It's real, it's terrible and it's an obscene use of power.

Further proof that #Labour aren't on our side, but the side of privatised companies & the wealthy. If they genuinely cared, they'd #nationalise water immediately & set the ball rolling on nationalising the other utility companies. For them, it's ALL about making money - at OUR expense.

MPs are trying to push Thames Water into a 'cooperative model'. Basically they have a babysitter from the State who sits with them until they behave, then in a few years it is back to business as usual. NO, end the con, Nationalise.

Right-wing parties like Reform only like democracy if they win. They cannot stand losing, so whenever they do, they yell, 'the election's been rigged' and blame the mythical 'deep state'. That's why, if they were ever given power, they would try to rig any future elections to stay in power.

Let me make it clear The UK's biggest problems are not problems within cities, they cannot be solved by more Mayor's They are the systematic tax dodging, extortion and destruction of essential services for billionaires profits that fly straight out of the UK tax free

I can only use my own thoughts and logic as a guide as to whether I'm on the right side of the debate or not. It might not be completely objective, but that, plus the sense that hitherto accepted science and logic are under attack by people on the far-right, makes me hopeful that I am.

Edward Cornwell@hopper3011.bsky.social · 4d ago

Why do you see yourself as being on the 'right side' of the debate? What objective measurement are you using to determine right and wrong?

Paying poverty prices to people in the third world to make cheap products for the West doesn't necessarily result in cheaper goods for the Western public. But it does mean Western companies make obscene profits at the expense of the world's poor. Then we're surprised when they want to migrate here.

A farmer in Africa getting 50c for a kilogram of coffee beans and it being sold for $40 roasted in the West - 80x as much - illustrates the problem. Profiteering farmers squeeze poor farmers. Addressing such unfairness would begin to address global inequality, which is one driver of migration.
