Being an #Academic is strange. One minute, you're hobnobbing with luminaries, and the next you're laughing at the #FartNinja your 6yo left on the bookshelf after a passing cloud made it go off.
A new experience this year at #4C26 - on multiple occasions, people walked up and asked if I was Charles Grimm (and I was - and I am!). It makes the conference feel different when you're becoming a person who is known, even though I'm not a scholar. I'm a volunteer, and that is being noticed.
I've already got a great group of colleagues who are considering putting something together for #4C27, and it is indeed exciting. I'm also hoping to continue working with my panel from #4C26, though, so it may get tricky! #TYCA26 and Cs gave me tons to think about, most of it practical right now!

This year's #TYCA26 was everything it always is: engaging, welcoming, and fulfilling. This year's #4C26 was better than some I've attended, but that's partially from building my network. Were teaching awards given this year? I didn't hear them mentioned, which made me feel less welcome as a teacher.
Daniel Radcliffe killed it as Weird Al, but I think he would make an even better Chris Thile. That's the mandolin movie we need now.

#EnglishTeachers, I'm curious what poems/short stories from British colonies I might include in my #BritLit course in the fall. I structured it this spring with works about Britain, expanding into colonies, and then colonies speaking back to the empire. Would love more #PoCo #Anglophone pieces.
I was super excited to see that #TheBeths were coming back to Atlanta after just missing them last time they were through, but then I saw it was on Halloween, and I have kids who will expect to trick or treat NOT at a concert. #DadLife #AllGoodArtNowIsFromAotearoa
I'm still shocked that I got this award, but it made for an even better #4C25! I got invited to give a keynote at Teacher to Teacher this morning because of this award, and my speech seemed to go over better than I thought it might.

It's weird when what felt as a grad student like "name dropping" of people's work that you've read becomes references to actual colleagues you've met and worked with. Weird, but good. #AcademicLife #TYCA25 #4C25 #GradLife #EarlyCareer

One of the funnier typos I have seen lately was from a student paper that had "Bloom's Taxonomy" as "Bloom's Taxidermy." I'm not mocking a typo - I wonder to what extent this may be more accurate for how a great concept often gets killed and stuffed to be a bad facsimile of the original concept!

My first attempt at an actual article for an academic journal just got an R&R! I've had a couple of proposal denials, some chapter drafts accepted for collection, and a published book review, but this is my first with a journal in my field. Very exciting times, and Reviewer 2 was kind!

I know there's an awful lot of bad things going on, and this is not trying to ignore it, but my mental health improves when I keep hope as principle. Eating for my health (lowering blood pressure/bad cholesterol) is one hopeful practice. I want to stay around for as much of my kids' lives as I can!
