bandcamp supporting subsonic now is crazy
my last feature for bandcamp is subsonic API support! now you can use a subsonic client to play your collection like it’s a self-hosted music server. yay open protocols! (btw there’s only explicit support for 3 clients but you’re welcome to try others, some may or may not work)

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.
it is really crazy to process leaving a place you’ve worked for 13 years. for many years it was a huge part of my identity, less so in recent years but still.. every day i wake up and work on bandcamp, it is what i do. since i was 22 years old, a literal baby
finally i will be able to focus on my true calling in life, writing command line software for a 12" powerbook g4 running mac os tiger
❤️❤️❤️
- Listening Parties - Livestreamed Events - "Send as gift" All of these features (and much more) were built by my friend Drew @grmnygrmny.bsky.social during his time at bandcamp. Thankful for him and the other folks who worked tirelessly to make it a thriving place for indie music.
They’re going to call you a socialist regardless. So be a socialist.
We had so many good times and nurtured a truly good corner of the internet, but what a shitty fizzling ending for the folks who got laid off today (and many more a couple of years ago).
my 13 years at bandcamp are coming to an end - i’ve been laid off along with most of the remaining engineers. best job i’ve ever had, working with the best people you could ever work with. unceremonious end to quite a ride.

The US military has backed AI development for decades; in turn, AI has transformed warfare. Amid shifting alliances & lawsuits, it’s easy to lose sight of the larger context: In recent years in particular, AI has enabled more and faster killings than ever before. www.theverge.com/ai-artificia...
AI warfare is already here

the extent to which generative AI has infiltrated the maker community really bums me out
