This is a great article by Vik on a practically very relevant feature request for Postgres. I do hope that someone picks up the gauntlet and both the 'Winnow' and 'Qualify' syntax will be added to Postgres using his specification and the underlying research.

Postgres 18. uuidv7() applied as a new PK column default. Inserts at 2-10K calls/minute. Inserts total time dropped from 1 millisecond to around 50 microseconds, about ~20x faster. Thanks to Postgres developers for this work which enables PK index maintenance to be much more efficient!

Help needed! I'm part of a team tasked with creating a 2nd year undergraduate module/course "Computational Skills for Psychologists" Its remit is the fundamentals of coding and good practice. Any advice from others who've done similar courses? (Assume no programming knowledge. Assume Python)

One of those foundational pieces of "imaging" research that will unlock an enormous diversity of fundamental research. Amazing stuff. It will also produce yet another staggering amount of data that databases will have a tough time to absorb.

The same goes for database companies that want to leverage machine learning or "AI": be weary of side effects, unintended consequences and hidden failures. It may kill the most basic function of your product: reliably returning stored data correctly and in time.
