Experiments for measuring dung and soil removal and seed dispersal. These are some of the ecosystem services provided by dung beetles. We weighted how much dung is left and how much soil was moved. We also counted dispersed seeds. These results will be compared with data collected 13 years ago.

I am proud to present our new project CLIMBFUN. We will be studying dung beetles on miuntain systems, collectingin sites visited 15-20 years ago. Collaborative work wirh researchers from Spain, Brazil, UK and France! Please follow @climbfun.bsky.social for cool updates

New technologies are revolutionising ecology, with more data than ever available at our fingertips. But what are the costs and perils of ecologists doing less field work? Interviews with several BES members in this fascinating @nature.com article

‘I rarely get outside’: scientists ditch fieldwork in the age of AI

In the race to embrace new technologies, some ecologists fear their field is losing touch with nature.

📢 1st paper of project DUNGPOOL is out. We present the list and geographical records of the dung beetles collected in the Azores. Dversity is low, and includes alien species. Will these poor communities be able to sustain the basic ecosystem services? More to come! bdj.pensoft.net/article/1632...

Dung beetles of Azorean cattle-grazed pasturelands - data of the DUNGPOOL project

The data we present are part of the project DUNGPOOL, which aims to evaluate the effects of the species pool, community assembly processes and increasing temperatures on the local diversity and ecosys...

Our CLIMBFUN project has been granted @ageinves.bsky.social! 3 years to study how 💩🪲dung beetle diversity and ecosystem functions change through time📆🗓️, along elevational gradients ⛰️, and how climate change 🌡️ influences these insects. Looking forward to work with my colleagues from 🇪🇸 🇧🇷 🇬🇧
