Guy Stewart Callendar (1898 - 1964) Discovered global warming in 1938 and suggested that increase in atmospheric CO₂ was partly responsible. The artificial production of carbon dioxide and its influence on temperature: https://doi.org/10.1002/qj.49706427

1938 After something of a hiatus in climate change research (with some notable exceptions), Guy Callendar published a paper showing the link between observed rising carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere and observed global mean surface temperature. 4/

The first scientific paper highlighting the observed rise in global temperatures was in 1938. By me! And I also linked the observed warming to the rise in CO2 levels in the atmosphere, building on the earlier theoretical work. We have known all this for soooo long.

A brief history of climate science: 1822 - Joseph Fourier suggests the atmosphere behaves like a greenhouse 1857 - Eunice Foote suggests that CO₂ is the gas responsible 1861 - John Tyndall identifies the main greenhouse gases which absorb infrared radiation: H₂O, CO₂, CH₄
