The 2025 Christopher A. Meyer Memorial Copyright Lecture

The Center, The Copyright Society, and GW Law Alum Mr. Michael R. Klipper are proud to host David Nimmer of Irell & Manella LLP for this year’s Meyer Lecture: “The Copyright Act Never Goes Out of Fashion.”

Since its enactment in 1976, the Copyright Act has evolved through decades of amendments and reinterpretations. This lecture uses the debate over fashion design protection as a lens to explore that evolution—and to reflect on copyright’s enduring adaptability.

Widely recognized as one of the foremost authorities on copyright law, Mr. Nimmer is the author of Nimmer on Copyright, the leading treatise in the field. He has represented clients before the U.S. Supreme Court and advised on copyright issues across entertainment, publishing, and technology.
