Today's gamedev journey - could just not figure out why this code wouldn't work. Turned out there was a very odd edge case that caused a race condition, built a detour and then inverted the logical flow, now it works as intended!

Streamed on Twitch today for 6 hours, and only got to do what I set out to do in the last hour - more levels & art! On the bright side, solved a serious issue with the UI system code that occasionally PERMANENTLY-locked input, tracking it down was a mystery and a half! #gamedev #indiedev

Sometimes small fixes can be humbling in how long they take, for example today was tracking down why the season code could not properly clean up after itself, would quickly see multiple stacks of snow or rain after a few quick loops!

😅 Today on hager's gamedev odyssey: ⌚ spent 2 hours down a rabbit hole: why a shader wasn't rendering, despite a re-import workflow in 3 different ways 👀 meticulously checking all is correct ❌discovery: out of date editor stuff that no longer existed, recompile against latest and it works!

knew yesterday this problem in particular was going to be a weird one, it turned out EVEN WEIRDER, I had to chase some real rabbits here just to get everything to play nice, had no idea waking up today how I'd fix it after discovering the absolute strangest, unexpected source of the wild behavior

Extending save/load system to support multiple profiles has been keeping me quite busy today! I've had one lingering question while working on it, do people care that much about naming their save profiles? I can't think of any time anyone has ever considered it a "must have". #gamedev #indiedev

Woohoo, fixed an irrelevant bug with weapon animations that had zero impact on the player but just annoyed me because it was looking for events that didn't and would never exist! One less bug, one more step forward (onto the important things)

Hehehehe last minute feature added on that 7 hour gamedev stream to the game - a jukebox in the hub area. Maybe I'll add a shuffle feature later too, already have it autoplaying as a feature after you start it! Should it cost like 1-5 in game credits per play or free? (forgot the 'off' feature 😅 )

Feeling so much joy reaching this milestone! After months of work on multiple musical tracks & the engineering to support it, the game has them all playing nicely nestled in their little game play moments - having it all come together like that, matching vision & seeing it play together for real 😊

So many bug fixes today - For three AI concepts they now feel more responsive, you won't catch them defying gravity and floating randomly (hah!), and they've calmed down a bit - no longer are their heads on a spinny swivel!
