I've recently held a casual research contract at Hertfordshire, collaborating with a social scientist. If universities benefit from humanities research, there's a case for them offering training in those disciplines! It's a real shame to see plans of closing humanities courses. c.org/fkmz9dSDn2

The cost of living in London (six years ago) was the primary reason I did not do my PhD in London. Even with a stipend more generous than the UKRI’s, it would have been financially a ludicrous, practically unviable, decision. PhD students need to be treated and paid like independent adults
