took the family to see Robin Hood in the woods at Williamson Park, Lancaster. loved this adaptation — they redistributed the wealth, reclaimed the forest from the landlord, abolished the police, AND abolished the monarchy
my 5yo twins found a dead moth in the house and wanted to give it a funeral, and so we held a prarthana sabha and recited the khämemi savva jive before cremating it in the garden
for me, The Exorcist is the scariest film I've seen, because of Father Karras' dream. after I first saw it, my own nightmares began to take that form, as if my subconscious went "wow that's a neat technique!". other films have influenced my dreams' content but no other film has changed their form 💀

I finally went to see the new Christopher Nolan film and I was disappointed. the film made no mention whatsoever of Leibniz's response to Bayle's pessimism regarding the problem of evil. also the costumes were historically inaccurate for 18th century Europe. worst adaptation ever.

thinking again about Nolan's choice in Oppenheimer to go with the idea that the *real* significance of hundreds of thousands of people being horrifically killed and maimed by nuclear weapons is that the man who developed these weapons felt a bit sad about it

The film centers Odysseus's guilt over his war crimes, but never shows us the POV of his victims, and instead glorifies the perpetrator for feeling bad about himself. I found this unsatisfying ethically and worse, imaginatively, because Damon's character is given only one mood (Troubled).
