Dang. That would have been a weird ending to one of the weirdest games I've watched. Kernels fall 19-18 in Cedar Rapids to the Lake County Captains.
Wow. Getting weird again here in Cedar Rapids. Three hit-by-pitches have loaded the bases for the Kernels, who are down by one.
Oof. Some unfortunate defense in the top of the ninth has allowed Lake County to take back the lead. Two errors and it's now 19-18.
Kernels have trailed by nine (9-0) and seven runs (16-9) at different points this game, and now lead by two.
Lackey with a single into right, right-fielder commits an error, and all three runners come around to score. Kernels lead 18-16!
Vahn Lackey getting the chance to put the Kernels in front in his first game with the team. It's 16-15 in the bottom of the eighth with bases loaded and two-outs.
Cedar Rapids Kernels working on a late rally of their own. Nobody out in the eighth with the bases loaded, and down by three.
Walk-off RBI single from Kyle DeBarge completes the come-from-behind win in the bottom of the ninth!
Sac fly from Andrew Cossetti ties this one at six. Winning run on third with Kyle DeBarge coming up.
After a very odd sequence with Garrett Spain at-bat, he draws ends up drawing a walk to make it 6-5. Nobody out and tying run is 90-feet away.
Bases loaded, nobody out in bottom of ninth for Wichita. Down 2.
Jake Rucker follows Ferrer's double with one of his own off the wall in the gap, and an RBI single from Caden Kendle makes it 6-4. Nobody out and tying run is on base.
Two-run double from Jaime Ferrer and the Wind Surge are working on a 9th inning rally. 6-3 Travelers with top of the lineup coming around.
In non-baseball related minor league game watching, the Cedar Rapids Kernels have the most annoying sponsor this season. I cannot keep the audio on when every ad is "I'm on ImOn" or the after walk PA announcement of "I'm on ImOn, and I'm on my way to first base." #YellingAtCloud
Yasser Mercedes with a two-run homer just inside the foul pole the other way makes the score 16-11 Captains in Cedar Rapids. They're only heading to the sixth inning...
After falling behind 9-0, the Kernels have come storming back thanks in part to the bats of JP Smith II and Vahn Lackey, who has added his first Midwest League home run in his Cedar Rapids debut.
Hendry Mendez joined Ross with a two-run homer in the first inning for St. Paul, who leads 4-2 over Toledo in the fourth. The Saints scoring crooked numbers in the first inning is basically automatic this season.
Riley Quick's outing is done after 3 1/3 innings and 64 pitches. He allows two earned runs on two hits and two walks. Struck out 7.
Caden Kendle with an RBI double to get the Wind Surge on the scoreboard. Still hot to the touch.
Saints are now underway at CHS Field. Walker Jenkins draws a walk to lead off the bottom of the first, and Ben Ross follows with a homer for an early 2-0 lead.
Riley Quick retired the first seven batters he faced, striking out five, but he's allowed a pair of runs on a homer in the third and now walked a pair to prompt a mound visit.
Matt Barr scatters four hits and one earned run over four innings for Fort Myers, striking out five. Mighty Mussels are tied with the Bradenton Marauders at 1 in the top of the fifth.
Kernels are down 7-0 in the top of the 2nd inning against Lake County, inducing a Pitching change from starter Michael Carpenter.
Vahn Lackey delivers a single in his first at-bat with the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
Riley Quick strikes out the side in the top of the first for Wichita against the Arkansas Travelers.
While a pair of recently strong runs of starting pitching performance were imploded on Tuesday, one bat in Double-A had a timely explosion to complete a come-from-behind win. twinsdaily.com/news-rumors/...
