Luxon is still using "dry year resilience" as the reason for importing LNG but there is nowhere to store the gas until a 'dry year' is reality, so that gas will just be poured into the national transmission lines for general use. This is a scam that will only serve to raise domestic gas prices.

The implications this presents for NZ's strategy to develop an LNG terminal and use model puts us in a worse trajectory than the one shown here for the UK. Likewise the inflationary effect. Us EV owners are largely spectators to this sh*tshow but our foresight should be a lesson to government.
