A silly sketchbook drawing from some time around early 2024. I'm not sure my pens will forgive me.

Another piece made back in university, the prompt was to make a creature. Combining creatures was on the table, so I mixed an alligator and a rat because I thought I could make it look funny.

Some random art! I made this when I was in university. I can't remember why I went with this. I don't believe there was a prompt for the assignment, I just felt like making it. Ah well, Snakes on Scooters.

"Trouble Free" 2026 The finale to the babysitting saga!

Panel 1: Skate and Mitz are on a sidewalk next to an alleyway. Skate has an annoyed look on her face as she stares off into the surrounding space. Mitz crouches down next to her, playing with some rocks. Skate speaks aloud to herself, "C'mon, where is she? I'm not trying to play babysitter all day!".

Panel 2: Skate, looking down at Mitz in frustration, says "All of this 'being responsible' is going to make me sick for weeks!". Mitz smiles, unaware of the criticism and continuing to play with the rocks.

Panel 3: Skate's expression changes as she looks down at Mitz. She appears apologetic about her thoughts towards Mitz, who is celebrating having stacked all of the rocks in a little pyramid.
"Then again, Mitz is a good kid...", Skate says, "...and today hasn't been all bad".

Panel 4: Skate smiles as she crouches down, patting Mitz on the head. Mitz looks up at her, smiling, and asks "Is everything alright Miss Skate?".
"Just reflecting, kid", Skate responds, "I had fun not getting into trouble with you today".

Panel 5: Entering the scene covered in and surrounded by a cloud of dust, Mitz's mother asks "How's my little Mitzy doing?".
"Mamma!", Mitz excitedly shouts, knocking over their rock pile as they bound towards their mother.
Standing up, Skate amusedly asks "Now where have you been all day?".

Panel 6: "I've been digging mouseholes into buildings all over the city", Mitz's mother slyly responds, "Easy mischief for me and the little one".

Panel 7: "Ready to go get into some trouble?", Mitz's mother asks, taking Mitz by the hand and walking away. "Yeah!", Mitz enthusiastically responds.
Skate stands behind by the strewn rocks, trying her best to strain a smile and wave past her raddled expression.

"Potion" 2025

A seven panel comic featuring a raccoon named Riley, a mysterious squirrel, and an opossum named Olive.

Panel 1: The mysterious squirrel stands dauntingly in a terrifying, swirling green landscape. The squirrel holds a stick behind her and wears a mischievous smile. "Behold, the great witches' brew!", she declares, referring to the mysterious glow from the ground below her.

Panel 2: "Are you courageous enough to brave its magnitudes!?", she asks, raising her twig-like staff and pointing it at a terrified Riley.

Panel 3: "I-Is that a real magic potion?", Riley asks, nervously pointing towards the glow. They recoil away while making this motion.

Panel 4: The mysterious green glow gives way to reality, revealing a mundane city park. A nearby garbage can leaks a repulsive green fluid into a dirty pothole on a paved pathway. The squirrel fervorosly uses her staff to stir the fluid around. Completing their thought, Riley points to the fluid filled pothole, saying " 'Cause that just looks like a nasty old puddle".

Panel 5: The squirrel raises her staff from the puddle, looking to the raccoon. "Perhaps, perhaps not! Will you make the leap of discovery?", she begins.

Panel 6: Pressing her staff into Riley's chest, the squirrel continues "Or will you live forever in agonizing mystery!?".

Panel 7: Riley lays on their back under a tree next to Olive. Olive looks down at Riley with a disappointed glance as Riley asks "Do you think the nausea means it's working?".

"Troublesome" 2025

Panel 1: Skate pries the mesh grate off of a ventilation opening. She wears a smug expression while doing so, singing "🎵 Breaking and entering, looking for a snack. Breaking and entering, nothing wrong with that.🎶".

Panel 2: Mitz, standing behind Skate, makes their presence known. "Hi miss Skate!", they say with a smile. "I WASSNT DOINNOTHIN!!!", Skate yells as she leaps startled into the air.

Panel 3: Skate, collecting her breath and leaning against the grate, shakily says "Oh, it's you, kid! You, uh, need something?". "What are you doing?", asks Mitz, excitedly pointing at the loose mesh grate.

Panel 4: Skate has a quick moment of worry before slamming the vent shut behind her. She nervously declares, "Definitely nothing wrong, or bad, or troublesome in any interpretable way!". Mitz seems a little alarmed by the display.

Panel 5: Mitz, eyes closed and head raised, begins to ramble. "That's good, because my mamma told me that everyone has to be good all the time because it's the right thing to do and wrong and bad things are hurtful because it's mean and it's not very nice and we should-", they announce, words trailing off the panel.

Panel 6: Mitz stand proudly, having said just about everything they wanted to say. Skate looks off in a mixture of bewilderment and awe. "Huh", she states, "Noble kid".

Panel 7: Skate and Mitz stand together in a minute of awkward silence. Mitz looks around while Skate scans the coast.

Panel 8: Pointing at the grate behind her with a big smile on her face, Skate offers "Wanna help me break into this place?". Mitz, nearly leaping in excitement, shouts "Okay!".

"Good Rock" 2024

A nine panel comic about a raccoon named Riley and an opossum named Olive.

Panel 1: Riley walks down a dirt path in a large city park. A fancy blue rock catches their eye. "Woah, that's a good rock", they say.

Panel 2: Picking up the rock, a stick catches Riley's attention. "Woah, that's a good stick, too", they comment.

Panel 3: Stick and fancy rock in hand, an interesting looking orange rock enters the view of the raccoon. "Woah...", Riley says.

Panel 4: Elsewhere, on top of a hill in the shade of a large tree, Olive rests curled up.

Panel 5: Riley walks into frame from the left side. The raccoon's arms are absolutely full of various rocks and sticks. "Hey Olive!", Riley greets. "Hello, Riley.", Olive returns, keeping his eyes closed and only barely lifting his head to respond. "Think they'll stay this time?", asks Riley. "Not likely", replies Olive.

Panel 6: With great focus, Riley attempts to carefully set the rocks and sticks down in a pile atop the hill.

Panel 7: Riley watches, hands still raised from the attempt of setting things down, as the rocks and sticks all tumble down the side of the hill. Olive opens a single eye to watch the objects go.

Panel 8: The rocks and sticks have all left the frame. Riley stares off in the directions the rocks and sticks tumbled. Olive, curious, looks at Riley with his single open eye.

Panel 9: Standing and leaving with a smile on their face, Riley waves goodbye, saying "I'm gonna go get more". Eyes again closed and a smile now on his face, Olive replies "Have fun".

"Free" 2024 The first comic in this series to use the actual title! This was made around the time I first came up with "Making for Nowhere" in late 2024.

A nine panel comic about a skunk named Skate and two mice, a mother and a child named Mitz.

Panel 1: Skate walks alone down a city sidewalk, a relaxed yet smug smile on her face. "Nothing quite as freeing as living alone in the city!", she says to herself.

Panel 2: Skate glances at an unattended tray of food behind an open window. She continues, "I can go where I want, do what I want..."

Panel 3: "...get into as much trouble as I want...", Skate continues, having climbed up to the window, reaching in for the food. Below on the sidewalk, two mice look up at Skate. The mother says "Excuse me, miss?".

Panel 4: "Um, hi?", Skate says down to them. "I heard you monologuing about how much you love the city", the mouse explains, "I could really use that experience right now".

Panel 5: Skate drops down to meet the two mice as the mother continues explaining. "I just need someone to watch my little Mitz here while I run a few errands".

Panel 6: Slightly perturbed, Skate tells the mouse, "Ma'am" I'm sure someone much more responsible would take far better care of your kid". "Oh nonsense! You seem trustworthy enough!", the mouse excitedly shoots back.

Panel 7: The mother mouse has already begun walking away, leaving Mitz in Skate's care. "Just don't go anywhere, do anything, or get into any trouble! I'll be back before you know it!", the mother airs as she leaves. Skate, holding the hand of the excitedly waving Mitz, can only mutter a confused "Buh...". "Bye, mamma!", shouts Mitz.

Panel 8: Skate, barely having processed what just unfolded, looks down anxiously at the child now temporarily in her care. Mitz looks back up at her with an innocent smile.

Panel 9: An exhausted look comes over Skate as Mitz's attitude remains unchanged. Skate mumbles "How freeing".

"Bothersome Thoughts" 2024 More fun with colors!

Panel 1: "Do you ever worry we're not living enough?", Olive somberly asks. "Huh?", asks Riley.

Panel 2: Olive continues. "We do nothing but the same things every day! Nothing's ever new, just the regular mundanity. Do you not think we could do more? Be more?".

Panel 3: Riley, visibly concerned, looks over at Olive.

Panel 4: Riley's concern gives way to a gentle smile as they look at Olive.

Panel 5: Riley outstretches a hand and offers the opossum some comforting words. "Olive, I get to spend every day enjoying the little things with those I care about the most".

Panel 6: Olive's frown gives way to a soft smile. Riley continues; "If that's all my life will ever be, I think I'm okay with that". "Hey, excuse us?", an unseen voices calls up from below.

Panel 7: Some fish in the pond have gathered at the pond's end, looking up at the two critters. One fish speaks for the group. "Um, can you two mull over life somewhere else? You're really bringing down the mood around here".

Panel 8: The fish and land animals stare at each other in an awkward silence.

"Convincing" 2024

A 7 panel comic featuring a raccoon named Riley, an opossum named Olive, and a skunk named Skate.

Panel 1: The trio of critter stand on a grassy hill in a city park. In the distance, two humans are visible having a picnic underneath a large tree. Olive says to the others, "I don't see why we can't share it". "'Cause giving up is for wusses, now what's the plan?", Skate snaps back.

Panel 2: Skate continues, "Because believe me, I am not above beating them up for your spot". Olive refutes the idea; "We are not fighting them!"

Panel 3: Smiling and shrugging, Riley says "I could always try reasoning with them!". Olive is unsure. "That's Risky, Humans are a whole different world of communicating". Undeterred, Riley responds "I can be pretty convincing".

Panel 4: "Your funeral!", Skate yells in the background towards the now leaving raccoon. Olive shakes a fist at Skate for this. Riley tries to open a dialogue. "Excuse me you two, but that happens to be my friend and I's spot, and I was wondering-", they begin.

Panel 5: Alien blue lights swirl in the air as the sky takes on an unfamiliar stormy appearance. The humans tower tall into the sky as abstract silhouetted shapes. As trepidation grips the raccoon, what's truly real about the sights before them becomes unclear. Nervous, Riley attempts to continue. "If I-I.. could... you could maybe... m-move, a little. Oh dear.", they manage to finish squeaking out. The humans respond in unknown sounds, their words appearing as vague symbols. Just barely, the words "raccoon" and "rabies?" can be made out in their speech.

Panel 6: The towering humans start to leave, the words "leave" "need" and "run" being faintly visible in their speech. Riley, clearly shaken, appears miniscule before the departing figures.

Panel 7: After a moment of surprise, a smile returns to Riley's face. Skate approaches with surprise as Olive looks on unimpressed. Riley says, "I don't know what they said, but I guess I really am convincing!".

"Betrayal" 2024 Felt like drawing in red.

Panel 1: Riley stands alone, angered. They stand in a cloudy red ethereal landscape. They think to themself; "I knew I would be betrayed one day. I never thought it would be by him".

Panel 2: Zoomed closer than before, Riley winces whilst staring forward. They shield their eyes as if from the light or wind. "The only one I've ever trusted in this blinding mess of a world".

Panel 3: The vague shape of Olive is visible, though the features are blurred with the distance. He holds something round and shiny. Riley's thoughts continue. "I should have known it would be the closest to me to bring me to suffer".

Panel 4: Zoomed closer to Olive, the object he is holding is now visible as an apple. Olive looks towards the onlooker with a sinister stare. Riley's thoughts continue. "But would knowing have prevented this pain?".

Panel 5: Riley stands dauntingly, fists clenched and head lowered, face obscured by the bright light behind him. "It only hurts nearly as much as what I must do to reclaim what is mine".

Panel 6: Riley lunges forward. "You have brought this upon yourself, old friend".

Panel 7: In plain day, a sleeping Riley attempts to wrestle an irritated Olive. Skate stands closely by, concernedly asking "Are they... alright?". Olive responds "Dreaming of food".

"Alone" 2024 The first one of these where I really started to play with color.

Panel 1: Skate stands between the bars of the railing of a bridge, looking woefully into the distance.

Panel 2: Skate stares from the bridge over a busy freeway into a distant city. Her inner monologue states "It's a big city to be wandering all alone".

Panel 3: Skate walks down a sidewalk under imposing buildings and the light of the moon. "It can be scary being so small in a place so large".

Panel 4: Zoomed a great distance above her, Skate is dwarfed by the massive scale of the concrete world around her. "So loud", she continues to ruminate, "yet so cold".

Panel 5: "A scale this overwhelming can be too much to take-". Skate's inner monologue is brought to a halt by the noises coming from a nearby alleyway. Two familiar figures seem to move in the distance. "oOoOoOOoo!", one of them cries. "Ha ha ha!", laughs the other. Puzzled, Skate looks into the alley, asking "What?".

Panel 6: The figures in the alley are none other than Olive and Riley. Olive, dressed in a torn trash bag adorned with a banana peel, mimes lunging at Riley while saying "The ghost of the trash has come for yooOOOoou!" "Ha ha! Nooo!", laughs Riley, amusedly shrinking away from the feigned attack.

Panel 7: Skate smiles into the alleyway, musing; "I'm glad I don't have to face it all on my own". One of the two in the alley call out; "Hey, Skate! Come over here!".

Panel 8: Under the dim electric lights of the alleyway, the three animals play. Together.

"Gizmo" 2024

A six panel comic featuring an opossum named Olive, a raccoon named Riley, and a skunk named Skate.

Panel 1: Olive, clutching an object behind his back, runs towards the other two animals. "You two aren't going to believe what I found!", he announces.

Panel 2: "Check this out!", Olive declares, revealing the object to be a skateboard to the others. "Woah! Nice board!", shouts Skate, clearly excited. Riley, a bit confused, asks "Cool! ...What is it?".

Panel 3: "Only the coolest new Gizmo thing you've ever laid your eyes on!", Olive confidently replies.

Panel 4: Skate, a bit put off by Olive's answer, inquires "'Gizmo Thing', huh? You know any tricks?". "Tricks, I know plenty!", Olive quickly responds. He continues; "Like the, uh...".

Panel 5: A flurry of confusing skateboard "tricks" cover the panel. Olive flips the board in the air, spins it on his finger, mimes air guitar with it, and various other ridiculous poses. Names for the "tricks" appear beside the actions. The "tricks" include "The Big City Toss", "The Homestyle Spin", "The Leaning Tower", "The, uh... this one", and "Do these all need names?".

Panel 6: Perturbed, Skate asks "Do... do you know how to ride it?". Olive, now wearing the skateboard as a makeshift hat, cluelessly asks "Ride it?".

"Being Better", 2024 I have fun with these. The final panel is still one of my favorite punchlines that I've made for this series.

Panel 1: A group of seagulls flies off into the distance, all carrying items of food. "Those seagulls just nabbed our lunch!", Riley exclaims, pointing to the fleeing birds. Skate stands closely by, raising her fist at the winged culprits.

Panel 2: "WE STOLE THAT FIRST!", Skate yells, beginning to march after the seagulls. Annoyed, Olive adds in; "We have got to keep a better lookout".

Panel 3: Riley is visibly irritated. "If I could get my hands on them I'd... uh... I'd probably say something real mean!", they declare.

Panel 4: "Real mean? Are you capable of that?", Olive asks. "No", Riley dejectedly responds.

Panel 5: Olive hopes to brighten the raccoon's outlook, stating "Regardless, being mean and fighting isn't the best solution. We should be better and work to resolve our problems peacefully instead o-". "I got it back", a familiar voice interrupts.

Panel 6: Olive looks on in startled shock as Riley asks the returning Skate "How?". Battered, disheveled, bruised, and arms full of food, Skate simply responds; "That's not important".

"Signs of Expertise" A comic finished in early 2024, and the introduction of a third character!

Panel 1: Skate, walking ahead of the others, asks "See? Whaddid I tell you two. Isn't the city great?". Riley, close behind, responds "I'll say! This place is awesome!". Nervously trailing behind, Olive adds, "I'm just glad you're an expert on this place".

Panel 2: Skate self-assuredly responds, "You can say that again! I'm a real pro at city livin'!".

Panel 3: Turning back to face the others, Skate continues; "I'm your one stop shop for everything urban knowledge!".

Panel 4: Riley, shocked and stopping in their tracks, exclaims "What is THAT!?".

Panel 5: Skate, squinting to see where the raccoon was just pointing, declares, "Oh, that? I figure it's got some sort of religious significance to humans."
"How can you tell?", Olive asks.

Panel 6: The object in question, an octagonal red sign adorned with the word "STOP", is now visible in frame. Skate concludes, "Why else would they stop and stare at it all the time?

"Facts" From 2023. I wanted the colors of the piece to stand out from the last, a trend I have continued as the comic has gone on.

A raccoon named Riley and an opossum named Olive are on a stone path in a park near a trash can. Riley studies a newspaper they are holding while Olive scales the trash can, intent on digging through it.

Panel 1: Riley asks "Did you know that leaves change color because trees get bored?"

Panel 2: Olive, seeing the newspaper, asks "What? Where did you get that?". Shrugging, Riley responds "Just found it! Now did you know that if hummingbirds stop flying they'll explode?"

Panel 3: "I'm almost certain that isn't true", Olive remarks. Undeterred, Riley continues, stating "How about that when dogs bark, they're speaking in morse code!"

Panel 4: "...How many of these do you have?", Olive asks. Squinting and turning the newspaper, Riley states "Lemme see..."

Panel 5: Numerous word bubbles of bizarre facts float around the utterly confused face of Olive. "Cats don't just have nine lives, they can't die!" "Lizards spend all that time in the sun to recharge their batteries!" "Birds can't fly, they can just fall really slowly." "Making trash is a celebrated human pastime!" "The sun goes away every night so that someone can change the bulb!" "Bushes are just trees that are scared of heights!" "There aren't that many bugs, you're just seeing the same few ones over and over!"

Panel 6: "...Does it really say all of that?" Olive asks timidly. Riley responds "Oh I can't read, I'm making these up.".

"Journey" Finished in 2023, a break was taken between this comic and the first one to explore other ideas in art. I just couldn't resist returning to comics, though.

Panel 1: Olive and Riley walk along a dirt path in a wooded area. Like the top panel, Olive is carrying a map upside down. Riley walks slightly ahead of Olive. "Are you sure we're not lost?", Riley asks. "Positive", responds Olive. "Like, really sure?", Riley asks.

Panel 2: Olive, walking with a frustrated confidence, states "Look, I know *exactly* how to get home. Why don't you just leave it to me?".

Panel 3: Olive looks distressed gazing at the complicated map. He continues, "I mean, isn't the adventure all about the journey, or living in the moment or something?

Panel 4: Olive tosses the map behind him, shrugging and putting on a smile. "We shouldn't be so focused on the destination all the time! We'll miss out on all of the beauty and wonders all around us!", he exclaims.

Panel 5: The panel is split, with the first half showing Riley glancing back at the discarded map. The second half shows Riley squinting in confusion at Olive, who is strutting forward with much feigned confidence.

Panel 6: The map on the ground is shown as the two little animals walk ahead on the path. "We're completely lost, aren't we?" asks Riley. Olive responds saying "Hopelessly".

The first comic in the "Making for Nowhere" series, back in 2021 before it ever had a name! It was brought about from a university assignment where the only prompt was to make a "short form comic". The series has had quite the visual makeover over its lifetime.

A comic simply titled "Title Here".

Panel 1: An opossum and a raccoon lie on their backs on a grassy hill in the shade of a tree. The opossum asks "Do you ever think that there's more to life than trash?". The raccoon inquires "What do you mean?".

Panel 2: The opossum, sitting up, clarifies "That maybe there's more than just doing the same thing everyday?"

Panel 3: Now both standing and walking away from the tree, the opossum continues, saying "Maybe there's a world out there that we're missing because of our same old routine.".

Panels 4-7: Panels show the two animals on their routine of gathering trash as the opossum describes it. The opossum says "Everyday is the same. We go find trash, we take said trash, then we bring it back to our spot and eat it, but what if there's something *more*," "A whole bunch of stuff we're missing out on?...".

Panel 8: The two animals have now returned to their spot seated under the shade of the tree. Each one now holds a clump of trash. The opossum asks "...Do you ever think about any of that?

Panel 9: The raccoon ponders silently, looking to be truly considering the information.

Panel 10: The raccoon simply responds with "Nah.".
