I suspect most writers have that one authority figure who was snide about their writing, allowing that writer to be fueled by spite for years if not decades. My version was the creative writing prof who was dismissive about science fiction. I sent him a copy of Old Man's War when it was published.

I usually read on my Kindle. Yesterday my daughter saw that I was halfway through a physical copy of The Raven Scholar and goes, "WOW you can read?" Apparently I need to be reading more physical books.

If I had the ability to accurately write down the thoughts I come up as I'm falling asleep I am convinced I would have a Pultizer winner on my hands.

I was trying to explain a scene from a short story I read in a critique group to my husband and it kept making me laugh too much to finish. I read the story months and months ago. I hope the author submitted it somewhere because obviously it was memorable that I'm still thinking about it

And there will STILL be a fricking typo or six in it.

I sent my first manuscript to a developmental editor. Now I get to wait on pins and needles for the next month.

What you see in the Sun, is the Chicago skyline from the Indiana Dunes beach, across Lake Michigan. You can see it from 50 miles of distance due to a form of superior mirage, because the skyline is seen above where it's actually located. [📷 wesskywalker]

This is the kind of lede that will make people suspect you have never prepared food for yourself in your life. Shaking things is actually quite common. Often you are meant to do it “well,” and do it “before using.” In fact, sometimes you do it “and bake” as a way to prepare chicken.
