Watched Blast. That was surprisingly fun. The action isn't mindblowing but it's solid and fairly grounded. Not sure if it was intentional but the story had me laughing a ton. Arjun has a ton of presence but Abhirami and Preity Mukhundhan get plenty of spotlight too. Loved the father-daughter dynamic
Watched My Young Auntie. Some nice fights marred by a terrible story. Kara Hui, the titular young auntie, spends the first two thirds of the film harassed by almost the entire cast. While she kind of shows off her moves, she's also shown up at every opportunity.
Watched The Butcher's Blade. The camerawork/editing is a bit much at times but when it's good, it's a pretty hype action film with a decent plot. Action-wise, they manage to include a variety of weapons I don't usually see like.. a wet towel and zither string. Also some nice spear moves.
Watched Affinity (2025). It's a decent DTV film that's an excuse for Marko Zaror to beat on some faceless bad guys in masks. The movie is only 80 min which means the story feels rushed and underdeveloped. It also means you don't have to wait too long before Zaror does all his cool kicking.
When I used to play Overwatch, the purpose of tanks wasn't to block damage but to create space. I have never seen anyone encapsulate that concept more than Brian Le in this movie. He manages to combine both speed and brawn to become a juggernaut in fights.
Xie Miao manages to say so much without saying anything at all and he mixes his martial arts with all the grappling really well. Joe Taslim's judo isn't flashy but it's a refreshing take from his usual style. Joey Iwanaga is captivating as a fighter and an actor. And Brian Le is an absolute menace.
.. the bare minimum motivation for the characters and wastes no time in throwing them into the twisting kinetics of Sonomura's unique dance. This feels like the culmination of 10 years of action cinema that peaks with a final fight that can only be described as controlled chaos. It's incredible.

My Chinese cut of The Grandmaster arrived this weekend so I revisited Wong Kar-wai’s dreamlike look into the world of martial arts. This cut feels like a big improvement over the US release. Zhang Ziyi, and more notably Chang Chen, get more time to bring a deeper weight to the themes of the film.
Last year, miHoYo copied my puzzle game Ouros in Zenless Zone Zero. Because they are a recognized, billion-dollar studio and my game isn't well known, some people are now assuming that their version is the original, and mine is the clone. I hope this video clears that up.

Watched Mortal Kombat 2. It’s better than the first by virtue of me not remembering anything from 1 but the writing is still bad. Everyone seems too serious except for Kano who’s just enjoying life. The fights are better but I don’t think any of them will stick with me. It’s a decent distraction
Watched Madharaasi. A fun premise and interesting main character manage to balance out a somewhat strange romance arc. I wish he was in the movie more, but there's also Vidyut Jammwal on-screen with more swagger than the protagonist.
Watched Humint. Ryoo Seung-wan still shoots movies beautifully but the story of this spy thriller is pretty standard fare. Of course the action is solid but it isn’t anything mind blowing compared to his previous films. Overall it’s a decent watch.

Watched Mexicali. It's nice to see Bren Foster in action again. The movie is a solid DTV action film. It doesn't do anything too crazy but it keeps a good pace. The lack of a big final fight at the end is disappointing but Foster brings his A game both in his acting and with his kicks.
