i went with a friend to her mormon youth group once in middle school. at the end, i asked the leader why there were different rules for girls + boys. i wasn’t being snarky, i was a genuinely curious 11 yr old. the leader told my friend’s mom i was never allowed back anyhow, this is super surprising

This is why I think it’s important to highlight how the status quo everyday background banal white supremacy is critical to building support for the more spectacular version everyone openly detests as “gutter” racism.
I think a good way to think about the current moment is understanding white supremacy as a spectrum with passive acceptance as the status quo out to actively arguing for global genocide.
White supremacy isn't just racism, it's also white people not introspectively evaluating their biases and assumptions about their own reactions to people in instances like that where it really counts. I will never forget that experience. 8/8
This is a good and accurate mini-thread that also reminds me of an experience I had in my 20s that has stuck with me ever since. I was part of a three-person panel interviewing web programmers for a gig. All three of us were white and very genuinely progressive and anti-Republican. 1/

Just once I'd like to see leftists respond to a Democratic primary victory by actually reaching out to their opponent's supporters instead of trying to bully them into falling in line because they have nowhere else to go. Maybe it'll happen this time. So far, my replies have not been encouraging.
