My friend told me her 10 yo daughter is growing out her hair after a teacher at school barred her from entering the girl’s bathroom last year because of her short hair. Can you believe this shit? And the school never apologized for this act of bullying.

My rural county has 100% projected winner for the incumbent Republican. I believe asking people to let them have their votes forever is a real chance to break through. When they call the House primary I will be wearing that persons shirt everywhere I go. Down ballot races mean turn out too.
Gentle reminder, very genuine: this was a Dem primary. Here's the 2024 Michigan map. The ground game in SE MI is important because northern Michigan outside Traverse City and west Michigan outside the cities is ruby red.

The 2024 United States presidential election in Michigan took place that November 5 as part of the 2024 United States presidential election in which all 50 states plus the District of Columbia participated. Michigan voters chose electors for Donald Trump and JD Vance to represent them in the Electoral College via a popular vote. The state of Michigan has 15 electoral votes in the Electoral College, following reapportionment due to the 2020 United States census in which the state lost a seat.[2]
Due to the state's nearly even partisan lean and the close margins by which it was decided in 2016 and 2020, it was considered to be one of the seven crucial swing states in 2024,[3] though many viewed it as the most difficult of the seven for Trump to regain, even harder than Nevada, the only one of seven Trump never won in 2016 and 2020. However, contrary to polling data, Trump flipped Michigan back into the Republican column, defeating Kamala Harris by 1.42%. This made the state 0.06% more Democratic than the nation at-large and therefore the closest to the national results. Michigan shares with Pennsylvania and Wisconsin the longest active streak of voting for the winning presidential candidate, having done so in the last five presidential elections. Altogether, the three states have voted for the same candidate in nine consecutive elections, dating to 1992.
This was the first election since 2012 where Michigan voted more Democratic than the nation as a whole. NoMIMA@littleplatter.bsky.social · 2h agoI found this interesting. Dems in NW MI and the UP largely went for El Sayed. I know most of these places save Leelanau County and potentially Benzie and Grand Traverse will vote R in the general, but these support for progressives up here.
Say it again, Sis. What I appreciated about Mamdani was that when his campaign was lagging with Black voters, he changed his strategy and thoughtfully engaged them. Yes he should have done it from the start but I’m glad he learned. Is El-Sayed’s campaign showing up in Black neighborhoods in Detroit?
There would not be a progressive movement in America without Black Americans.

I want the statement "Black Americans are conservative" to absolutely die in a fire. It's a lie from the pits of hell. Black America's record demonstrates that, as a whole, we are the MOST progressive racial/ethnic demographic in the United States and it's not even close.
Donavan McKinney's win means that Detroit has a Black representative again. That's meaningful for a whole lot of folks. (And now certain ones can stop dreaming about taking back Rashida's seat, because that's not happening. LOL!)

In other Michigan news, the state looks set to elect it's first transgender lawmaker. Joanna Whaley won her Democratic primary and will compete in November for a state house seat, beating a primary opponent who tried and failed to disqualify her for not running under her deadname
A gentle observation: Some of the same older Black voters in Detroit who are being shaded for not supporting Abdul El-Sayed in the primary sent Rashida Tlaib to the House. And keep sending her there. 🤯 Yes, her district encompasses all of Dearborn *now,* but not in 2018. All politics is local.
