It was very dangerous to enter a room where a mother had just given birth, a troll could sneak in and exchange the baby for its own. If you brouht fire though, it would be ok. Trolls feared it. Bortbytingarna (The Changelings) by John Bauer #WyrdWednesday
1/2 Anette, milked several hours per day for most of her adult life. Aching arms and stiff backs were a daily presence in statar-milkmaids' day. Still, Anette felt a connection to her cows, like her, they were enslaved to produce milk for the wealthy land owners that "employed" them.

Along our coastline there are numerous tales of 'Sea Witches', traditional folklore characters often portrayed as women, who have a magical bond with the sea and the weather elements. One such tale takes place at Turnberry, Ayrshire. #wyrdwednesday #Scotland art: Adrien Amilat

Thor was everywhere!
In one of England's great folklore crossovers, the Devil's Punchbowl in Surrey was formed when the Norse god Thor, annoyed at the Devil jumping over the Devil's Jumps, threw the earth at him, thus creating the Punchbowl. #FolkloreSunday
Rå loved Thor and his powerful hammer. She went outside during thunderstorms and moved her long hair aside and opened her back so Thor's power could enter her. #SwedishFolklore #Rå Read about her in my historical fantasy The Lure of Water and Wood
