Old soul. Introvert. Orphan. Kindness advocate. Dog mum. Knick-knack hobbyist. Bit of this/bit of that. Will follow you anywhere if you have chocolate, or squidgy sweets. “Five dollars. Maybe I’ll go to the movies…by myself”

Came home from a very brief trip away, and one of the first things to my sister that NEARLY came out of my mouth was ‘Did Mother call?’ I stopped myself and told my sister I was about to say this. Another stark reminder that Mother’s gone.

Today would be Father’s 83rd birthday. My one small comfort is that with Mother’s passing, perhaps, wherever they may be, he’s getting to celebrate it with her today?

My parents in their younger days. Father looking vaguely like David Lynch and Mother in her fancy dress.

Another reminder how real life is. I recently bought macadamia nut butter. I opened it and tried some today and thought of how my mother would have loved it. And then the sting of grief comes. God, this death thing is beyond hard to cope with.

Saw the Michael movie today. Cried at the end because my mother would have loved it. Mother was a huge fan of his. She watched the trailer for the film multiple times and she would have been mesmerised. Above all that, it was tremendous.

Holidays when you have no living immediate family anymore feel weird. They’re just another day. None of the extended family offers for you to come to theirs, most of them forget you still exist. So, you spend them alone. Doing what you do every other day.

Today would be Mother’s 83rd birthday. So we plan to commemorate the way she’d have wanted to do. Eat all the sweets, and at all her favourite restaurants. Goodbye diet! (For the day, at least)

Oh my god, @bobmort.bsky.social. All my brain has done for the last two days is repeat ‘You’re a nut job, you’re in bin bags, you’ve got a cobbler’s head in a hole beneath your shed’. I’d love to say I hate you for this, but the reality is I love you.

She’s been gone a month today. It still is incredibly surreal. Give your mums a hug. Let them know you love them. Because one day they’ll be gone, and their presence will be only in your heart and mind.

My mother was in the hospital 6 days, from going to the ER for a stomach issue, to the day she actually died from an issue completely different. It cost nearly $252,000 dollars before ‘insurance adjustments’. So many in this country have NO insurance at all. Let that sink in.

My mother’s hospital bill covering 6 days in the hospital and all services provided to her, including her death. The US healthcare system is beyond broken. So many in this country cannot afford basic insurance so the $252,000 that was billed in this case, think of how someone WITHOUT insurance who isn’t wealthy would even remotely be able to pay for that??
